The Myrtle Point board outlines a 20 acre site plan for a new 500 student elementary with eight rooms and space for a library and audio visual area. Architects from Coos Bay will present floor plans a scale model and site plan at the December meeting as federal funds review the project.

Myrtle Point city officials invite Coos County Fair board Lions and Rotary clubs and local TV officials to a Dec. 16 council session. The meeting will review the leaky community building roof and possible vacation of the 90 year lease with the Fair association.

Log Jam Removal Opens Salmon Spawning Grounds on Coquille

Robert W. Schoning state Fisheries director announced the clearance of eleven log jams above the Middle Creek fish way on the Coquille River. The project, worth about $40,000, completes obstruction removal on Middle and Alder creeks to restore anadromous fish access to previously inaccessible spawning and rear areas. Funding supplements total $2,600 to augment $5,000 already available, with work carried out by Menasha Corporation Cool Head Timber Company and Georgia Pacific Corporation in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management and Coos County officials.

Assembly of God Church Plans Paving Project Next Summer

The Assembly of God Church plans a paving project next summer blocking a city sidewalk. Volunteers will replace the sidewalk from Willow Street corner to the former fire station site and the area in front of the church will be graded to curb level. The church will also be painted and a late summer painting project is planned.

Golden Glove Bouts Slated At Elks Club

Coquille Valley Elks Club hosts Golden Glove champions on Friday December 6 at 8 90 pm. Ten three round matches span all weight classes from lightweights to heavyweights. Steve Novak will officiate. Elks and families plus guests are invited.

Soviet Union Students See Film Flight to the Soviet

Curt Matson presented the film Flight to the Soviet at MPHS Nov. 22 in the cafeteria. He traveled over 10 000 miles through the Soviet Union visiting Leningrad Moscow Odessa and the Black Sea region. Highlights included the Tbilisi markets the Lenin grad ballet Orthodox churches and the Bolshoi Theatre.
