Myrtle Point Chamber Plans Christmas Events Downtown
The Myrtle Point chamber and merchants announce a Christmas season with downtown openings Friday and Saturday November 29 and 30. Prizes of 25 to 75 dollars in script will be awarded. Santa Claus will hand out candy to children on November 30 and December 21. Store hours run 1 3 p.m. events feature free theater at Hiland Theatre and a drawing for prizes and turkeys at 8 p.m. December 21. Tickets become available starting opening day and may be redeemed in local stores. anyone present may win.

Union Thanksgiving Service Slated For All Community
A Myrtle Point Union Thanksgiving service at the Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday November 27 at 7 30 p m features Rev Deane Keller of the Baptist church as speaker. Assisting are Rev Dorman Love Rev Neil Fisher association president and host pastor Rev Lloyd Pounds. Choir led by Rev Richard Munson and Mrs John Dayton. The Myrtle Lodge of the AF amp AM honored educators during National Education Week with about 130 attendees. The Will Rogers hospital serves entertainment industry personnel with respiratory and cardio diseases, and O'Donnell Memorial Research laboratories are housed in the Will Rogers main building with advanced facilities.

Margaret Davenport Wins Trip For National 4 H Congress
More than 160 Oregon 4-H records were judged at OSU before the trip winners were named. Margaret Davenport, among at least 24 Oregon 4-H members, will travel to Chicago for the National 4-H Club Congress December 1 to 9, after meeting age and service criteria. The group plans to leave Portland by train Thanksgiving Day and arrive November 30, with about 1200 4-H members from states and eight foreign countries attending.

Funeral services for Matthew James Nichols will be at 2 p.m. in Schroeder's chapel with Ted Boatman of the Reorganized Church of Latter-day Saints officiating and Elder Dean Mason assisting. Burial follows at Norway Cemetery. Nichols, born July 2 1877 in Smith River California, died November 19 in Myrtle Point at 86, after 45 years in the area as a retired Southern Pacific railroad man. Surviving: daughter Lulu Noel of Coos Bay, brother Joshua Nichols of Eugene, sisters Mattie Lewellen of Grants Pass Josie Wilcox of Hermiston and Mary MacGinnis of Bandon, sister-in-law Effie Summers of Myrtle Point, granddaughter Margaret Gottenburg, and three great grandchildren.

Saddle Club Donates Playgrounds in Myrtle Point
The Saddle Club donated playground equipment valued over 1000 dollars to Myrtle Point and installed at Lennherr Pioneer Park and Rotary Park. City Manager Ben Nichols announced the gift while the City Council prepared a letter of appreciation to the Saddle Club. Equipment included a slide and giant stride, with Harley Parrish in Myrtle Point building most pieces to design specs from W B Billings Merry-go-rounds.

The Bon neville Substation yard was robbed Friday as aluminum wire was sorted from copper and left behind. The incident at the Coos-Curry Electric substation notes repeated thefts with prior copper wire losses and a padlock breach, but no wire recovered.
