Broadbent board sets short term zone four election

Three Broadbent school board members drew lots to decide which zone will elect a short term member for a three year span this spring. Terms for Arago and Myrtle Point run four years with March 16 1976 filing for three district positions.

Building Permits Increase Near Half Million in Myrtle Point

Through November 14 1975 Myrtle Point issued permits for twenty four new buildings valued at over 480 000 with an average cost per unit around 20 000 as remodeling and repair permits total 171 056. This marks higher activity than 1974 and 1973 though total permit value inside the city may dip despite rising housing starts.

Advisory group forms for Mystic Creek Murs Creek project Oregon

Alfred Shirley Jr regional engineer Roseburg announced a Citizen's Advisory Committee of local residents for planning Mystic Creek Murs Creek area in Oregon. Members include Bruce Blew Winston Janes McGinnis Buzz McDonald Marion Rentz James A Combs Camas Valley. First meeting tentatively set for December 18 in Camas Valley with the Division's Interdisciplinary Team to aid in technical matters. Plans may be ready for contract let in fiscal year 1970.

Gibbs named to State post

A former Myrtle Point resident named Robert D. Gibbs has been chosen as safety compliance officer for the Accident Prevention Division of the Workmen's Compensation Board. Gibbs, 42, formerly ran 3 X Logging and worked in California and Gold Beach as a lumber cutter. He will conduct inspections in Baker and Malheur Counties under the Oregon State Employment Act.

Dr. Earl O. Dickman head of Oregon State University veterinary school spoke at the Coquille Valley Elks Club about a new tri state program with Oregon State University Idaho and Washington State University. The plan targets 15 Idaho 30 Oregon and 65 Washington students yearly with 10 open to outside tri state students. Training phases place two years at Washington State and OSU handling clinical training two years. Research focus includes isolation lab carrot and calf disease research and tansy poisoning.

Myrtle Point teachers file grievance over contract details

Myrtle Point Education Association, the bargaining agent for local teachers, filed an informal grievance with District Superintendent Gerald Bennett in early November. The issues include access to personnel files, evaluation practices, lack of a policy handbook, and unclear duties. Bennett replied November 17 that most items are resolved and a policy handbook is being prepared.

Federal funds boost Broadbent section highway project

Oregon wins four of seven Title X highway projects under a federal program. The Broadbent Section of the Powers Highway in Coos County is valued at 2.154 million dollars and already under contract, while Elk Hill Port Orford on US 101 in Curry County is 2.465 million and set for December 18 bid. The Crooked River Highway segment and Redwood Highway segment are 400 thousand and 1.3 million respectively, with January bid openings.

Sheep Growers Conference Set in Eugene December

The Oregon Sheep Growers Association and Auxiliary announce their 680th annual convention at Valley River Inn in Eugene from December 1 to 5. Activities include a Make It Yourself With Wool show, educational programs, a banquet with dancing, a sheepherder breakfast, and executive committee meetings with noted speakers from national and state sheep industries.

Coos County Approves Road Policy And Maintenance Plan

The Coos County Board of Commissioners adopts a county road policy detailing incorporation of dedicated roads into the system, assessment rules, petition requirements, and three criteria for assessments. It also addresses maintenance costs and a penalty for recent road emulsion pollution, plus permit violations requiring amendments.

Kunzman to Address Dairymen Assembly in North Bend

Leonard Kunzman director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture will speak at the joint annual meeting of the Coos Cury Dairymen Association and Southwest Oregon Dairy Herd Improvement Association in North Bend. The December 1 dinner starts 7 30 p.m. at Pony Village Lodge with reservations due by November 24. Ray Hobson of the Milk Marketing Division will discuss northwest milk market activity and Ray Korat executive director of the Oregon Dairy Products Commission will serve as master of ceremonies.
