Jim Myers and Joe Sinko pledged Kappa Delta Rho at Oregon State College. Myers is son of Mitch Myers of Myrtle Point and majors in Business and Technology. Sinko is son of Joe Sinko of Arago and majors in Food Technology. Also from Coos County are Bill Church Jack Fisk and John Watzling of Coquille.
The Billingsley Huggins Insurance Agency completed a new neon sign installation Friday of last week. The elaborate sign features a large revolving section atop a base, enhancing Myrtle Point's business district appearance.
Rev Edward C McClurg takes over at First Methodist Church in Myrtle Point and will preach next Sunday November 29. He comes from Wilshire Methodist Portland where he served two and a half years and has held roles with the Conference Board of Missions and the Oregon Temperance League. He studied at Cascade College Western Washington College of Education Seattle Pacific University Boston University and Harvard Divinity School and has taught at the University of Washington. He helped found the Citizens League of Pawtucket and is an honorary lifetime member. His wife Alice attended WW College of Education and they have three children Edward III Aileen and Robert Bruce. He will speak on Should We Be Looking or Next Sunday.
The American Legion Auxiliary urges readers to donate toys for Christmas for the children of disabled veterans at the Roseburg Vets Hospital. A large toy box is in The Herald window. bring toys to The Herald office by December 1 to ensure timely delivery.
Mr and Mrs William McCullough and their three daughters of Coos Bay were detained in Myrtle Point Sunday night due to high water and stayed overnight at the Flentge Perkins home. Earlier they dined with Mr and Mrs Ted Green in Broabent.
Kenneth Crow reports Community Cannery operated nine canning days from September to October closing Oct 28. Mrs Marion Brown and Mr Lawrence Watson led operations. 949 fruit 3116 vegetables 1339 meat cans produced with 57 registered workers. Balance Nov 3 1953 stood at 155.02 with total receipts 591.08 and expenditures 515.25.
The Inter church Fellowship of Myrtle Point sponsors a Union Thanksgiving Service at First Presbyterian Church tonight at 8. Reverend Leo Miller of The Church of the Brethren will deliver the sermon with ministers from several churches taking part. The public is invited to join in this nationwide observance.
Coos county Townsend clubs will meet at the Legion Hall in Myrtle Point next Sunday November 29 with a potluck dinner at 12:30. All interested in old age pensions are invited whether or not they are club members.
Myrtle Point Lutherans will gather at their church above the post office on Thanksgiving Day at 11 a m to give thanks to God. The day has been proclaimed a national holiday by the president. The pastor will deliver a sermon titled Erecting An Altar of Thanksgiving. Public invited.
Mr and Mrs Don Lockhart expect his parents, Mr and Mrs B H Lockhart, to arrive here this week to spend the Thanksgiving holiday.
A wartime era letter exchange from Coquille Oregon recounts Mrs Mildred Ansley of Texas accusing George of a watermelon display, with jokes about cucumbers and Oklahoma, ending with Mrs Eldon Ansley defending her move to Oregon and referencing regional tensions.
Flooding along the Coquille River cuts routes to Myrtle Point and blocks schools and phones. The river drop eased to six to seven feet Monday night, with Arago and Roseburg highways reopening, rail mail service resuming, and radios used as the town remains largely cut off.

More than 200 attendees joined Coquille Valley Art Association for the dedication of its new building with a dinner and program led by Mayor Don Farr. Maude Wanker gave the dedication note. exhibits featured scale model horses by Fannie Branson and metal work by Tom Hardy.
