Fire at the Miller residence near a barn in Brewster Valley destroyed the Merrifield home on Saturday night. Ed Merrifield was away. his son woke and escaped in nightclothes. The blaze spread toward a nearby inn but was dampened. investigators could not confirm a cause.

E C Barker posted a $16 prize for the largest buck west of the Pacific Highway. Charles Southmayd, a local man, won the district prize of $25 from a large hardware company. Southmayd exhibited a five point 1704 pound Columbia blacktail buck.

Dement Creek road is in very bad condition after last summer’s work with graveling. Cars have been pulled from mud and a fill above Wm Chandlers washed out due to no culvert. People travel on foot. residents hope for repair when weather allows.
