Meote Poant city council met Monday to plan repairs to the dump road toward the dumping grounds. I G Bingham to lay 30 yards of gravel for $130. Drains to be added along the road and trash on property by Myrtle Point cemetery to be removed. Attending were Mayor E C Barker and councilmen Liam McNair, Ralph Kring, T G Sumerhin, M J Morrison, and Marlin Evans.
Masons held a National Education Week event at the local lodge with Elton Schroeder as chairman. The program opened with a piano solo by Austin Hall and a Constitution talk by Dal King, followed by talks on primary, secondary, and college education by Floyd Summers, P Linn, Eugene Laird, and G L McKay joined by Paul Breuer. The male quartet and Miss Rose Smith provided music, and refreshments and cards capped the evening.
Saturday storm caused a fallen tree on Brewster Road blocking passage and crushing a powder shed used for milk and cheese factory operations. Minor damage reported as Gregory Mead cut the tree and cleared the road, reaching the cheese factory around 1:30 PM.
The club held a Sunday session with performances including Water Laid, a Townsend song by Mr. Townsend and Mrs. Wis, and a Gus Bender arranged number. Miss Votian Peoll sang with the orchestra, and Mrs. Lilo Bas provided accompaniment. Nest Sunday the club will be revived with KH Hanaen as speaker.
A large turnout of janitors and public building caretakers will gather at Union High School in Myrtle Point next Friday and Saturday November 16 and 27 for a two day session led by O I Thompson and the State Board of Vocational Education. Topics include finishing and refinishing floors cleaning mixtures and other building care subjects.
Ivan J Maxon of Myrtle Point was arrested Monday and fined $3 and costs for improper car taillight. Mack M Brown of Powers was arrested Monday and fined $2 and costs for driving without an operator's license.
The Twin Oaks community gathered Friday Evening November 12 for a spelling bee program at the hoolhouse. Esther Nelson performed two piano pieces while Iris Houschouer spoke on sewing machines and Colleen Vulvan presented on farm machinery. A vocal solo by Woy Crenk accompanied by Mrs Fred Lafferty followed. Prizes awarded to top boys Donald Davenport and Harold Reed and top girls Iris Housshouer and Xena Hayes. Afterward an old fashioned spelling bee was held, words spelled backward, with the women winning. cake and coffee were served.
Eastern Coal Deeds Ida A and K H Hansen transfer to Metta E Rasslow for property at the northeast corner of Ash and Sixth streets Myrtle Point. Metta E and f1 G Rosslow lease the same realty to Ida A and K H Hansen during their lifetimes. Alexander-Yankeey Timber Co sells to LB and L Logging Co for 500 dollars 160 acres in section 20 on Camas Creek about three miles southeast of Sitkum. Charles B and Bertha Weldon deed 10 acres in the southeast quarter of section 7 about two miles west of Myre to Alta EB Robison.
The Coos County schoolmasters club in Coquille drew up the district basketball schedule with Roseburg officials observing. Teams listed include Coquille Myrtle Point North Bend Marshfield Roseburg with Jan to Feb games at various campuses leading to the state tournament in Salem.
The Herald produce window adds California Red potatoes and large Cool County Red spuds from Pow ers Ryerson at Catching Creek. Andrew Ryerson shows unfertilized soil growth and hopes for larger specimens next year. This week introduces Mas todon White Belgian carrots from West Norway, challenging exhibitors to show big roots.
Nellie Brayton sues Albert E. Brayton for desertion since February 1922 after a 1918 Vancouver Washington marriage with no children. Dorothy Sachs sues Jack L. Sachs for custody and support for their 5 year old son, Jack L. Jr., after a North Bend 1928 marriage. Mildred Moulton seeks custody and $45 monthly support for four children from her 1921 Portland marriage to Frank L. Moulton. claims desertion since July 18, 1837 and lack of proper support.
A wedding in Portland united Miss Wauni Stepanek of Myrtle Point and Henry Stepanek with Earl Wood of Myrtle Point in a Presbyterian church ceremony officiated by Rev S O Price. The bride wore velvet and carried chrysanthemums and bou BVardia. A large reception followed in Portland at the Baio vicha home with 28 guests. The couple returned to Myrtle Point and are at home with the groom's mother Mrs Jennie Wood.
The ME Official Board held a Monday evening chicken banquet at the Methodist church with 25 members present along with the past and Rev Hugh Mitchelmor and wives. Rev Mitchelmore spoke on The Glorious Privileges of a Board Member, Rev Cronk outlined the Loyalty Campaign plan, and cards were issued to enlist for ten weeks. Twenty one signed up to attend every Sunday and invite others. Mrs Mitchelmore performed two piano numbers and was appreciated.
An exhibit of about 106 new books for adults and children will be on display at the library this week.
A district-wide meeting of Episcopal women from Gardiner to Gold Beach will be at St James Parish house in Coquille next Monday. The event starts with a 1 PM potluck luncheon, followed by an entertainment program. The bishop will attend the St James Church confirmation in Coos County that evening and the after ten service.
The annual Shell Christmas Show arrives Tuesday afternoon at 3 p m featuring scientific wonders and Joey the clown. The 1900 themed performance includes feats like tree growth, ice from breath, and soda pop to milk, with Santa Claus giving candy to all children. Ted Hornecker, Shell Oil manager, arranged the event which is free to the public.
Ed ward Rustvold from Watertown S D purchased the Myrtle Point bowling alleys this week. He will run a clean orderly establishment and invites former patrons and ladies to visit. his family already resides in the Floyd Fowler house on Eighth Street.
Oregon growers invited to enter 10 ears of yellow corn for statewide district competition staged in Portland Public Market from November 29 to December 4. Two classes open to all and 4-H members, with $10 first prizes across five districts and cash placements through 10th. Sponsored by Portland Bank and Portland Chamber agricultural committee with Oregon State College cooperation.
A state wide dealer banquet is planned with dealers invited to attend. Soon after the event the 1936 Ford models and Lincoln Zephyr cars will be placed on display at local showrooms across the state.
Red Cross members met at Mrs. E C Barker home with county chairman Mrs. W G Barrow to plan the drive. The campaign began Friday with good response but more volunteers are needed. A Red Cross nurse is stationed at county banks to receive memberships Friday Saturday and Monday. Myrtle Point conducted its first house to house canvass in years. Last year Coos County was heavily relied on during the Bandon disaster.
A basket social and dance benefit will occur Saturday night at 7 at Alder Cree school in South Catching Creek. Proceeds fund school improvements. All are urged to bring baskets and attend the social and dance.
Myrtle Point and Coquille chambers of commerce conducted a joint meeting at the Coquille Motel on Tuesday noon. The principal speaker was C. Chapman editor of The Oregon Voter who spoke on Portland labor conditions and the Wagner net and its impact on business.
