The Coos County Fair scored 820 points of 1000 to place second among Oregon fairs in 1978 per the Oregon County Fair Commission. Tillamook led with 681, while Grant 815, Lane 814, Douglas 700, and Josephine 796 also rated.
Season six F deep Home Season tickets for 1978 73 Myrtle Point High School basketball games are on sale at the high school. Athletic Director Frank Grove announced this week. Season tickets cost 10 dollars and order forms will be mailed to last season buyers. Also noted Coos County booth at the Pacific International Livestock Exposition won two blue ribbons. The booth was entered by a committee from Coos Pomona Grange with Stalling the booth being Mr and Mrs John Reiber Mr and Mrs George Stevens and Mr and Mrs Thomas Haynes of Green Acres Grange.
A special committee from School District 41 and advisory members studies options for a cement grandstand seating 1000 at Myrtle Point High School. Proposals include classrooms and a laundry area beneath the stands, or replacing the torn grandstand with a two story shop and classroom complex.
The Valley Community Bus Service is now operating providing daily trips to the Bay Area. The shuttle left Coquille at 3 0 a.m. and serves Powers Myrtle Point on distinct weekday schedules, with departures from each location on Monday Wednesday and Friday.
Weyerhaeuser Company in North Bend paid 2.1 million in Coos County taxes, a large increase from last year. The total district burden includes 91,106,000. The Bay area operations also paid 90,288,700 in zones from Coos and Deugins counties. A three month pilot bus service is offered with fares by donation and reservations via local numbers. Plans discussed include a grandstand at Myrtle Crest School and potential use of fairground facilities for classrooms and football.
The Broadbent TV Translator Board announced the sale of their former translator to the Powers TV Treasurer Board this week. The sale funds will help Powers improve the quality of TV reception with new solid sine parts.
Two distinct timetables shown for community bus service. Powers route runs Monday, Wednesday, Friday with stops from Powers to Myrtle Point and Coos Bay. Bandon route runs Tuesday and Thursday with schedules between Bandon Coos Bay North Bend and Myrtle Point with envelope fare instructions.
