Four Bobcats Named to Sunset All Stars in 1972
Myrtle Point and Coquille each placed four players on the offensive Sunset Conference All-Star team for 1972. On offense, Brian Richards end, Reve Crosby tackle, Steve Rayevich halfback, and Jim Walker fullback were chosen. Defensively, Richards end, Walker linebacker, and Rayevich defensive halfback earned spots. Honorable mentions included Marty Gery guard and defensive linebacker.

Coos County Sheriff Tony Zarteno was chosen to participate in the National Sheriffs Association led Operation Neighborhood Watch. The program, supported by LEAA, aims to reduce burglary and larceny by informing citizens and enlisting their help, citing a five year rise of 70 percent in burglary and 109 percent in larceny.

Christmas Shopping Opens in Myrtle Point With Santa Claus
Plans announce December 2 as the Christmas season kickoff in Myrtle Point by the Retail Trade Committee. Santa Claus makes a first 1972 appearance with visits on December 9 and 16. A giant merchant give-away is set for December 18 with a grand prize from the chamber and other prizes. Downtown stores may stay open to 8 pm December 16 to 23. Christmas lights to be erected November 20 by the Myrtle Point Fire Department.
