Miners Report Zinc and Cinnibar Find on Sixes Prospect

A pair of lessoned prospectors traveled to New Lake in Curry county to bag geese and enjoy a few days. Robert and Ben Harrison, Sixes miners, returned from a prospecting trip with some g204 findings including a cinnibar lodge near South Sixes. Leonard Martley and Miss Mary S Hayes wed at the Hayes home in Ruel with about fifty relatives present.

Myrtle Point completes water system upgrade

The Myrtle Point water system was completed and accepted by the City Council, described as one of the coast’s best. Citizens praise the cool clear mountain water, ending the town’s longtime water shortage and enabling growth.

Odd Fellows Lodge Nominates Officers at Coquille Meeting

Local members of the Myrtle Point Independent Order of Odd Fellows traveled to Coquille Friday evening with J H Pete Smith and Ezra Zinn to receive the first degree. Fred Mantz Buys Local Grocery and Rebrands as Fred's Food Center

Fred Mantz has closed a deal to acquire the grocery at 523 Spruce Street, renaming it Fred's Food Center from Quality Dash Grocery operated by Albert Reed. Mantz, formerly with Safeway, plans enhancements and a Saturday opening with updated storefronts, decor, and a fresh display area. Jin Evans attended the opening progress.

Council Passes Beer Licenses Amid Debate

A city council meeting approved beer license measures amid discussion. A missing terrier named Pepper was found after two days, discovered in a wall beneath a store at the northwest corner of Spruce and Sixth streets. The dog had been last seen at home before vanishing Friday afternoon.

California Man Killed in Saturday Car Crash

Joseph Rohiger of Paynes Creek California was killed when the car he rode in plunged down a seven foot embankment on the Dora Sil Kum road near the Coquille Canoe Club around 8 30 Saturday evening. Joseph Schnur and two sons escaped injury. one boy and Robert received minor concussions. Rohiger was visiting the Schnurs and planned to move in with them after arriving in the United States in 1922 from Australia. The Schroeder Funeral Home handles arrangements. burial awaits word from Rohiger’s Paynes Creek friends as he had no known relatives.

Christmas Seal Sale Opens November 30

Mrs C J O'Neil presides over the Coos County Public Health association as Christmas Seal sale chairmen meet in Coquille with Dr Bostrom of the health department the Myrtle Point chair is Mrs Ralegh Greene and county chair Mrs William Barrow. The sale runs through Christmas with seals mailed December 1. The drive notes volunteer work reducing tuberculosis death rate from 201 per 100000 in 1904 to 49 in 1938.

The Myrtle Point Women's Bowling Club secured a victory last week Tuesday at Marshfield Alleys, posting a total score of 2719 to Marshfield’s 2875 in a match between local clubs.

The Townsend club met Sunday at Townsend hall with President E W Buckner in charge. Four visitors from Coquille attended and Techub placed an order for 1940 Townsend calendars. Mrs O H Clarke led an entertainment program including a community sing God Bless America and various musical numbers. Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated

The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs H W Christma of Bridge was celebrated Saturday at the Grange Hall, with about 60 relatives and friends attending. A noon dinner and decorated wedding cake followed by visiting, dancing, and gifts from decorations. The couple, who moved from Oregon, raised ten children none living, and twenty one grandchildren with great grandchildren.
