Myrtle Point Fire Department members plan to erect Christmas decorations in downtown Myrtle Point though it remains uncertain if festive lights will be lit this Yule season. Spruce Street photo shows last Christmas under lights ban due to electrical energy shortage. Pacific Power and Light Co. manager Mike Dungen said the utility would decide if downtown lights could be used as in pre 1973 years.

Myrtle Point chamber asks review of juvenile shelter plan
Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce on Monday urged Coos County Juvenile Advisory Committee to study a possible juvenile shelter care facility at the former Pioneer site. Intendent Jerry Bennett discussed the district’s plan to move into the old McKay’s Market site next June and noted the building could be rehabilitated at lower cost than a new facility.

Myrtle Point approves cable rate increase and town notices
Myrtle Point City Council approved a monthly rate increase for Warner Cable Co effective December 1. The current rate will rise from 9.50 to 6.50 with a $1.50 increase for each additional outlet. Douglas Beach, the company's GM, cited rising costs and stable 1970s rates as context. The meeting also tackled reserved parking near the high school, an ordinance requiring restroom facilities in public and semi public buildings, and endorsement of a liquor license for the Pastime. Council adjourned with a report due on Measure 14 affecting city officials.

Myrtle Point to open Christmas shopping season Nov 30
Myrtle Point plans for a Christmas opening and a retail trade promotion sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Santa visits downtown Myrtle Point on Dec 7 Dec 14 and Dec 21 to greet children and distribute candy. Prizes include an oven and two $60 gift certificates with drawings on Dec 21 at 11 am, 1 pm, and 4 pm. Tickets available Nov 30 through Dec 20 at downtown stores.

Clark to address stockmen at annual meeting

Bank debits for 12 reporting centers in Coos County rose in September 1974 from September 1973. The University of Oregon Bureau of Business and Economic Research reports September 1974 debits at 152,604,000 versus August 1974 at 177,064,000 and September 1973 at 91,052,000. Oregon banks at 44 reporting centers showed a 5.4 percent drop from August 1974 and a 25.8 percent rise from September 1973. Total September 1974 debits across the region reached 10,460,595,000. August 1974 totaled 11,051,013,000 and September 1973 8,313,165,000.
