The club announces its annual af fair dinner will be held Wednesday night December 3. The date was decided at a board meeting last Friday evening and preparations are under way led by Clayton Mast Arnold Melby and Sam Dement. The dinner location is to be announced later.
The Marshfield Albany intradistrict football playoff is set for Friday November 21 at 8 p m on the North Bend high school field. The winner advances to play the Dallas Klamath Falls victor that same night with future location and time to be determined.
At the Multnomah hotel meeting the interim regional committee heard that Oregon's highway demand is rising faster than funding. Rep Ralph Moore cited gasoline tax and traffic growth while noting 1947 accidents and train auto collisions. The Myrtle Point Lions Club announces a third annual Steelhead Derby with 400 in merchandise prizes. The contest runs December 1 through January 31 with weekly prizes for the largest catch and grand prizes for overall winners. Ladies division offers a special prize. tickets available at local shops and through Lions members.
Maj E Osborne and his son-in-law will visit relatives in Myrtle Point later this month. Osborne, connected to U S Army and U S Air Force recruiting, has served as public information rector and received a Rivdon from Maj Gen Beightler for his work.
Wallace Dement local attorney was principal speaker at the regular weekly meeting of the Rotarians held at the Myrtle hotel last Thursday noon. He discussed the new community property law passed by the state legislature and warned that many controversial cases will arise as old common law provisions were not repealed. The 1947 48 tax on Coos counties largest taxpayer has been paid in full and distributed among Myrtle Point North Bend Coos Bay Coquille East side Empire Rural areas. The amount excludes federal and state taxes and about 100000 more annually in additional levies.

Edmond Bargelt son of Mr and Mrs Harokd Bargelt of this city is in Mast hospital recovering from serious injuries received Tuesday mornng when he fell from a pile of stacked ties on a loading dock across the railroad track below. Bargelt was employed by John Cawree hauling ties from Rock creek above Remote to the loading dock at Broadbent when the accident occurred. The reports say the fall prevented a broken back and the injuries are internal.
The city churches announce joint Thanksgiving services on Wednesday evening November 26 at the Church of Christ with Rev Richard Cochran as speaker. This remains the churches’ longstanding annual tradition.
An infant son born November 20 948 to Mr and Mrs Orville Buell of Camas died within hours of birth. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Guard Roush and Wise receive honorable mention on the all county selections. Tackles Kissel and Hatfield also noted on the backfield for their strong play this season.
C. J. Sherar, 19, remains in serious condition at Mast hospital after being struck by a falling snag during logging at Harmony mills Camp No. 1 on Ward Creek Wednesday afternoon. He sustained head and shoulder injuries.
