Sam Dement of the Coos Co fair board and Al Wyld of the Lions club urge remodeling of the Oaks pavilion with foundation and roof work by the fair board and interior remodeling by the Lions. The city would assume oversight insurance and janitorial duties with a caveat the responsibility can be relinquished if expenses arise. Lions plan sealing and a modern kitchen and the facility to host community events except fair week.
More than 100 people attended the annual 4-H Leaders banquet in the Coquille Community building last Saturday evening. Pacific Power and Light Company funded the event honoring local 4-H volunteers, with an after dinner program featuring speakers, singing, dancing, and awards led by Arago 4-H Mothers' club chairwoman Mrs. Roy L. Ellis.
George Mangan of Safeway writes president Arthur Ireland outlining Safeway policy after Oregon voters rejected the Milk Marketing agency. He notes prices to producers should not fall despite changes and cites past Vancouver Washington pricing where distributors undercut Portland prices.
Dr O H Clarke of Myrtle Point pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Eureka California abortion death case. Judge Dal King imposed seven years in the state penitentiary and a $500 fine after the defendant rejected leniency. Sheriff Wm Howell sent Clarke to the penitentiary to begin serving the sentence.
Tom’s Richmaid at Fourth and Spruce unveils a Irish green face lifting job, after a choice between Irish green and bright red. The final color aims to avoid misreading as a fire station while presenting the shop in Sunday clothes.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club holds its annual Thanksgiving Turkey shoot at the local trap grounds this Sunday, November 21, starting 10 a.m. Lights allow night shooting. Harold Watzling says separate divisions for amateurs and beginners, with prizes for all. Open to members and nonmembers. hats and ammunition available on site.
Myrtle Point Lee Ray Post Veterans of Foreign War earned first in the state and third in the nation for its 1955 paid up membership drive. Adjutant Gus Metsgus received a gold medal and citation of honor from National Commander Everett G. McKinney. Vern Stout, the post commander, earned a certificate of honor and a silver medal. Also cited were George Brown and Lloyd Winningham, not present.
The Interchurch Fellowship in Myrtle Point raised 100.45 dollars for Church World Service Share Our Surplus, funding 2100 dollars worth of food and goods for needy people abroad. The letter from Mark A Talney, Executive Director, commends the youth for the first interchurch donation in Oregon.
Between 80 and 100 veterans gathered at Legion Hall for the annual Armistice Day breakfast hosted by Myrtle Point Post 39 for Coquille Post 36. Bill Downing served as toastmaster with speakers Bill Head Henry Rowell and Jess Barton. the Myrtle Point Community Band provided music.

Guy Grant was elected president of Myrtle Grange for the coming year at the regular Grange meeting held in the Grange hall on Saturday evening November 6. Officers named include Russell Evans overseer and Carl Holland lecturer, with a large slate of appointees and executive committee members.
After a Wortle Point Chamber meeting, the group voted to exclude youngsters next week but then reversed and allowed all ages to submit letters to Myrtle Point Herald for the Why I Should Buy in Myrtle Point contest. First prize is $10 in merchandise, second prize $5, awarded to top letters judged by a panel.
At a PTA meeting Paul Franzen superintendent urged parents to locate and send any missing names of district youths aged 4 5 and 18 19 as listed in The Herald to secure about eighty dollars per child in state education money. Dr J R Bunch of Coquille gave a Mexico themed talk and showed photos and souvenirs. Mrs Herveys 3rd grade led in parent attendance. next PTA meets December 7 with Harlan Montgomery from the Coos County Tuberculosis association as guest.
Dogpatchers from Coos County gathered in Myrtle Point last Saturday for the annual Sadie Hawkins Day dance sponsored by the Myrtle Point Lions Club. Prizes went to Mrs Robert Volchok for best costume, Howard Leatherman as Lone some Polecat, and Mrs Dewey Winkleman as Moon beam McSwine. Music was by Red Jordan and his orchestra. Lions committee leaders were Russ Dement and Lyle Carver with several members assisting.
Rev Abercrombie arrives with four Central Washington School of the Bible students to conduct daily meetings at Bridge Community Church starting 7 30 each evening through Thanksgiving. The public is invited and a large Monday crowd attended the opening session.
Report from the Mast hospital notes two injured men doing well after an auto accident. One patient suffers a fractured skull and brain injury while another man, Howard, remains under care with a leg amputated.
Local Methodist churches from North Bend Coos Bay Coquille and Myrtle Point met at the Hioneer Methodist church in Coquille Saturday night. Bishop A Raymond Grant of the Northwest Alaska and Hawaii districts spoke on living Christ and erasing daily shams while urging laymen to witness to peace. Doug Ahm a young Korean guest spoke on church work in his country aboard a merchant marine ship docked in Coos Bay harbor.
Powers High announces its annual junior prom at the school gym next Saturday evening from 9 p m to 1 a m with Neil Gray's Star Light Playboys providing music. Tickets are one dollar per person and the event is informal with the public invited.
The Myrtle Point Interchurch Fellowship will sponsor a union Thanksgiving service on Wednesday evening November 24 at 7 30 in the Christian church. Rev Edward McClurg of the Methodist church will speak on the topic Can It Be Done. The host church will provide the special music.
The fall championship dinner dance occurs Friday at 7 30 p m at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club. Bill Downing and Jess Barton to present trophies for 1964 golf champions. Motion pictures of men and women's final matches to be shown. Tickets cost 150 and are available at Moller's grocery Lou Holimonts cleaners or the club.
The 40 and 8 locomotive Vulture 316 will visit Myrtle Point on Saturday November 20 to aid the American Legion Auxiliary toy and paper drive. People may leave donations at the Herald office or call Moller's drug store or Sempert's Drug for pickup.
