On September 11 the State Game Commission declared a special season in various areas to allow archers to bag deer. The move repeats a common practice that precedes the general season to avoid fire hazards. This column continues on page six.
A local Lions Club meeting ends with John arrested after resisting peaceful persuasion. Frank Meldrum leads a committee backed by officer Jim Stone to locate and detain the boy. John pleads guilty and pays the fine while being paraded to the post during the session.
Two men were badly hurt Saturday evening when a stalled passenger car was struck on the highway near Bridge. Arlie Collier and George Elmer Phillips were injured, with Phillips suffering serious head injuries and a fractured leg. Brimhall was critically injured with multiple fractures and later had his right leg amputated.
Oregon announces liquidation of the Milk Marketing Administration assets after the recent election. The Secretary of State, Douglas DeCew, will oversee the process with funds authorized by the emergency board. Legal claims and pool monies will be settled as required by law.
Mrs Clarence Mae Barton, chair of the Coos County Democratic Central committee, aware of a telegram from Senator Elect Richard Neuberger expressing deep appreciation to Coos county Democrats for tireless efforts that helped secure victory and pledge to advance a responsible party in the state.
Mr and Mrs Adley Magill were photographed as they hitch a buckboard driven by a live “old Dobbin” at Ham Thrifts Mart. Harold and Dottie Bargett reported the scene, noting the rusty buggy ritual in today’s horseless era. The Magills agreed to answer questions for a human interest feature.
A two week series of meetings will be held at Bridge Community Church starting Nov 15 at 7 30 p m and continuing each evening through Nov 28 including Thanksgiving. Rev Hervey Abercrombie will deliver messages with assistance from students at the Central Washington School of the Bible led by Roy Abercrombie. Non denominational workers from area churches will join, with nightly programs featuring music and messages for all ages. Transportation help is available by calling 2111 or 15R02.

Myrtle Point will dedicate its new Flora M Laird Memorial Library next Tuesday at 2 PM. The event includes presentation to the city by Mayor Jack Dunn, with heirs of the Laird family joining in a ceremony led by state librarian Eleanor Stephen and local booster Mrs E C Barker.
Residents of Myrtle Point and Dogpatchers gather for the 11th annual Sadie Hawkins dance at the Oaks Pavilion starting 9:30 PM. Marryin Sam reportedly recovering vocal cords, but the Dogpatch orchestra led by Reddie Jordan will headline with prizes for best costumes and a 1:30 AM close. Admission is $1.50 with tax.
The Myrtle Point Legion Auxiliary collects toys for children of disabled veterans at Roseburg veterans hospital. Citizens are urged to donate usable toys or money by December 10, with a desire to fill the Herald window and show appreciation for veterans of World War I World War II and Korea.
In a tense 1934 season opener the Bobcats lost 20 to 6 to Reedsport. Key plays included a Reedport 2-yard TD run and a 88-yard interception return by Bruce Whitaker. Penalties and offside calls halted late Bobcat drives as Martinka and Schulz moved the ball on drives toward scoring.
All golfers and others interested in golf are invited to the big annual Fall Tournament dinner dance at the club house Friday evening next week. Banquet served at 7 30. Balloe president and toastmaster arrange program to be provided by the members of the club. Public is invited.
Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce offers weekly $15 prizes for essays on Why I Should Buy in Myrtle Point. First prize $10 and second $5 in merchandise, with seven weeks of entries leading to grand prizes $50 $25 and $15. Open to adults. letters due Friday each week for current week prizes.
In Coos county Oregon eight Jersey herds were classified for breed type and dairy conformation by Prof Fear of the University of Idaho. Owners and their average classifications include Albert Evthon trouser 417 on 3 head and others from Myrtle Point Hauser and Oak Knoll Jersey Farm with percentages ranging from 80.83 to 86.67 on varying herd sizes.
Union Thanksgiving services will be held at the Christian Church at 7 30 p m on Nov 34 with Rev Edward McClurg pastor of the Methodist Church to deliver the sermon and special music. The Interchurch Fellowship reports the monthly meeting of the Christian Church. A drive will place over $2000 worth of donated food to aid through Church World Service.
Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Poland of Powers won the Grand Prize Hotpoint Range in the Chamber of Commerce Dollar Day event. Timmy Woolley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Woolley of Myrtle Point, drew the winning number from 10 000 entries and refused a tip, saying I am a Boy Scout. Second prize went to Mrs. Jean Whobrey of Broadbent and third to Mrs. Francie J. Martinus of Myrtle Point. The late winners were not present.
An anxious crowd gathered at 3 pm Saturday for the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce Fall Dollar Day drawing. Timmy Woolley drew Francis Martinus of Myrtle Point as the grand prize winner after a random selection from 10 000 names. Mrs. Martinus won the third prize Eastman camera set. Timmy, a boy scout, refused an $85 tip from Mr. Poland. Continued on back page.
The Myrtle Point Elementary School District 41C census by the Parent Teachers Association shows far fewer four five and eighteen to nineteen year olds than expected. An urgent appeal asks readers to check for omissions and contact Paul Franzen with names and birthdates.
Mary Reed’s color and sound motion picture My Work Among the Lepros will be shown at the Methodist church Sunday evening November 14 under the Commission on Missions with Mrs H Johnson in charge. The program notes Reed’s 59 years of service among leprosy patients in India and her recovery from the dread disease. Event begins at 6 o clock with refreshments to follow. A later meeting is planned for November 16 at the church.
High school students from Myrtle Point and nearby attend Regent Student Council sessions led by Joe Martinka president Brad Ross Iris Brower and Othy Nelson meet weekly with sessions Monday and Tuesday at the high school near Medford.
About 53 boys from Boys Town Nebraska along with Father Frascé paused in Myrtle Point Thursday during a concert tour. Their stop drew local attention as they appeared in the city for a brief visit and performance.
