School Board Accepts Bids and Sells Property
The school board accepted Shell Oil's low bid of 0.2107 cents on gas and 0.1235 cents on stove oil. Suburban Gas won the property bid at 0.1689 cents per gallon for a 40 foot land strip near Broadbent Ridge. The board also approved fencing to separate playground from road, and granted bus driver Bill Hamilton a 50 cent hourly raise to 3.00 for driving instruction at MPHS. Next meeting is Tuesday, November 21 at Arago school.

Delegates Attend IRL Conference in Eugene
Four MPHS students joined by senior Carol Gassman and advisor Desth Miller attended a one day IRL Fall Conference in Eugene. Delegates split into four groups to explore Human Rights topics including refugees, over population, racial discrimination, and self-determination. Luncheon sessions separated groups to discuss money making, spending, study aids, and meeting plans.

Oregon to Distribute Tax Relief Funds This Week
Secretary of State Clay Myers announced nearly 15.5 million dollars will be distributed to Oregon counties for direct property tax relief. An additional 5.114 million is allotted to reduce property tax on inventories for the current year, and a first annual cigarette tax distribution of 5.463 million plus 10 million from the general fund will fund relief at 4.21 dollars per thousand of assessed value. The cigarette tax plan directs 50 percent to local relief, with 25 percent each to cities and counties quarterly.

Broadbent to Get New Bridge Over South Fork Coquille River
At a courthouse meeting, officials said the state will set the contract for a new Broadbent bridge on January 26, 1968, with completion expected by fall. The old bridge, damaged May 26 when an overweight gravel truck collapsed it, is not to be repaired. A 32 foot wide, 265 foot long structure will replace the one lane span, with a total cost of about 230000 dollars.

Four Coos County Farm Bureau members attended the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation annual convention in Portland last week. Don Schmidt and Mrs. Schmidt of Norway served on the OFB board and advisory council, with Mrs Schmidt chairing the Wool Fashioners contest. Paul Wiley of Broadbent was elected county Farm Bureau president for 1968. Reward Offered in Cow Theft Near Rogue River
Curry County investigators probe the theft of a 1100 Hereford cow and calf reported November 5 from Scout Creek near Agness 2 miles from the Rogue River. A $100 reward through Don Lucas of Agness offers capture or recovery of the animals.

Myrtle Point Forms Girls Gymnastics and Basketball Teams
Organizes Girls GAA adds a gymnastic team limited to GAA members due to space. This is the third year for the girls basketball team with evening practices. The GAAsponsored gymnastics program expands to balance beam, trampoline, Swedish box, parallel bars, uneven bars, and floor exercise.
