Work started this week on about 15 Bear Creek camp sites along Highway 42. An allocation of $160,000 covers three project types under the Public Works Act, with about 12 more workers to be added. The BLM notes a $168,000 allocation and orders to begin the public works program in Ceos county as the agency ramps up salvage windthrow timber work.
The Monday holiday disrupted mail delivery delaying fine columns by Mrs. Ivan Laird of Sitkum and Mrs. Charles Bowers of Remote. The Herald regrets readers must postpone Sitkum and Remote news until next week.
Typhoon Karen slammed Guam with winds to 172 mph over Sunday night and Monday morning. The disaster left about 70 000 residents homeless, at least one dead and hundreds injured, with damage estimated around 100 million dollars.
The Post Office announced it will issue hundreds of thousands of misprinted stamps to deflate the inflated value of a small stock. At least 400 of the original 20 million commemorative stamps were printed upside down, and the move aims to devalue the 100 stamps currently circulating among collectors and mail users.

A government spokesman and Home Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri warned Tuesday that Chinese Communist forces are massing along the entire Indian frontier. They said troops have already occupied thousands of square miles of Indian-claimed territory in Ladakh and NEFA as the frontier extends through the Mima or Himalayas about 2,000 miles.
Two escapees from Coos County Jail were cornered late Monday after a third escaped earlier in the week. Authorities pursued the trio through the area before catching the two who remained.

Charles Wilson aged 37 died after an incident involving logging operations on Sit hum. He served as superintendent of woods operations and first loader for LB and L Logging Company before being taken to Maet hospital.
Thanksgiving services will be held at St Peters Church at 9 a.m. in the copal church as announced.
Safeway announces Charlie Train will serve as manager of the Myrtle Point store for three years and has been manager of Safeway Store 316 at 20th and Killingsworth in Portland. Frank Wiebke says Train earned his managerial training from him. Train and his wife and son move to Portland as he begins duties on Monday, Nov. 13.
Oregon State Highway Department announced bids for a 1.78 mile Highway 42 reconstruction from Tanner Creek to Remote. The project plans 40 foot oil mat surfacing on new grade with traffic routing through construction, aimed for completion in fall 1963, important to Myrtle Point residents as a major east west route for tourists and forest products.
The total park damage stands at $470 000 with the largest share from blowdown totaling $265 000 across highways. Damaged signs and signals added $138 600, highway damage $32 000, and park roads $236 600. Oc tober 12 storm heavily hit Silver Falls Jessie M Honeyman and Umpqua Lighthouse. A Silver Falls inventory shows two million board feet of timber with salvage value $40 000 in picnic and overnight areas.
About $30 in cash was missing from a combination store cafe service station and tavern. Police investigated a break in through a rear door with a broken window and a simple lock turned. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, with the business closing at 1:36 a.m.
