Myrtle Point P T A met with over 200 attendees led by President Bob Hogan. Reports covered Housewives for 42 in Salem with Gov Holmes and W C Williams. Kindergarten fundraising chair Mrs Bob Belloni appointed. PTA to sponsor Man On Fire film with Bing Crosby on Dec 10 and 11. Chuck Humble's room won the attendance prize. Representatives from Myrtle Crest School showcased Social Relationships studies.
Sharlene Joyce Cribbins 18 of Bridge died last Friday in Van Nuys when the car she rode in was struck by a passenger train. Carol Montgomery of Bridge survived with minor injuries. Funeral services were held in Eugene after services in Bridge.
Oregon State Highway Engineer says the federal forest highway allocation for 1959 totals about 4.3 million dollars, about 173000 more than expected. The increase comes from a new apportionment formula 75 percent area and 25 percent value, boosting Oregon’s share.
All golfers in the Coquille Valley area are urged to attend a Get Acquainted banquet at the Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club this Friday at seven. The event will introduce the new management Weems and Elvers and showcase the improved course under Andy Richardson. More than 200 residents from across the area gathered for the annual Dogpatch Sadie Hawkins Dance at the Community building hosted by the Myrtle Point Lions Club with Red Jordan and his orchestra. Prizes crowned best character and best costumes, while a downtown parade kicked off Saturday afternoon at 2 30.
Oregon's timber sector receives a boost as the Budget Bureau allocates 375000 for Forest Service operations in Oregon and Washington. Anander says 400000000 feet of timber can be put up for sale immediately with 225000 for processing and 150000 for roads surveys and designs.

Gov Holmes signed House Bill 4 providing $75,000 to pay salaries and mileage for senators representatives officers clerks and stenographers and to cover general and contingent expenses of the special legislative session. James K Trigg of Norway Oregon, a junior industrial arts major, has been elected vice-president of Nelson Hall at Humboldt College Arcana. Trigg, son of Mr and Mrs Robert S Trigg, transferred from the University of Oregon in 1956. Head Resident is Mr Bob Heyder. Box 83 Norway. He graduated from Springfield High School.
McKinley Grange held Booster Night on November 2 with dinner at 7 30. Seventeen non grange visitors seven grange visitors and 43 members attended. Mrs Bertha Beck of Portland spoke. Hilda Brown received the Silver Star for 20 years. Carlton Brown of Salem presented an electric clock for hall improvements. A program and dancing followed.
C C Farr of Cons Bay will present colored slides from the Holy Land at Community Church in Fairview on Wednesday November 20 at 7 30 pm. The Farrs traveled extensively in the Holy Lands and will lecture. A free will offering will be taken for the Gideons to buy Bibles for school children.
About 250 Coos County women gathered at the Coquille Community building to urge state and county officials to improve Highway 42 from Coos Bay to Roseburg. County Judge James Harrison and Commissioners Fred True and Fred Kruse voiced support, stressing broader needs for better roads across Coos County.
Mapril Easton, Myrtle Point graduate and University of Oregon music major, played the French horn for Coos Curry Pioneer and Historical Association members at the new North Bend museum program. Thomas Vaughan, Oregon Historical Quarterly editor, praised the museum while officials noted $7000 still needed to cover bills.
A preliminary hearing on reorganizing the Coos County unit of the American Cancer Society is set for Wednesday November 13 1957 at 8 00 p m at the Coquille Community Center. Charles C Clark Oregon division A C S field representative will explain the plan and lead the discussion open to the public.
Robbery reported at Dick's Place 502 Spruce Street after closing time between 1 40 and 6 00 Monday morning. Pro proprietor Lyle Carver says the thief took 362 dollars in cash leaving 94 on hand. A portion of the skylight was removed and the intruder descended by rope or improvised means. About 230 dollars were in two dollar alarm packs. Suspect details not released.
Tom Guerin Jr was elected president of the Myrtle Point Unit of the Coos County Farm Bureau at a meeting held at the high school agricultural building. Officers include Don Schmidt of Norway as vice president and secretary. The Guerins attended the state convention in Eugene, hearing national farm leaders and Don Tarriberg, assistant to the U S Department of Agriculture.
Governor Holmes urged a nonpartisan push for water storage in the Columbia basin and a State Power Commission to leverage hydro power. Speaking at a Rural Electric Cooperative conference in Portland, he framed storage as essential to flood control and economic development, contrasting Columbia and Colorado river capacities.
