Coos County Delegation Pushes Highway 42 Improvement

Coos county representatives at the Oregon State Highway Commission meeting in Portland urged immediate upgrading of Highway 42 from Rink Creek to Powers Junction. They cited traffic needs for the Eden Valley dam project and 93 percent of Coquille Valley freight bound for the southern market. The group pressed for making Highway 42 a through route to serve the Klamath basin, noting Canyonville to Crater Lake is currently numbered 42.

Council Considers Solution to City's Water Problems

Myrtle Point Council at Monday night directed City Administrator Ben Nichols to hire consulting engineer R H Ericksen for preliminary estimates and site location of a water filter treatment plant. A study reviewed options including expanding storage reservoir space and developing two city springs, evaluating cost and efficiency for the growing water issue.
