Oregon Legislature adjourned after a 19 day session costing taxpayers about 125000 with a 20 cut to taxes. Democrats sought 10, Republicans argued for 31 and a surplus for future sessions. The compromise halts 37000000 in collections at the next tax time.
Gomez schedules a Rainbow Assembly gathering in Reedsport on Thursday with attendees Mrs Ralph Whitaker Sharon Cook and Dottie Johnson expected to attend.
Representatives from RH Erichsen Engineering met the Myrtle Point council to present estimates for a complete water system renovation. The project, costing about 260 000, includes filtration, distribution upgrades, larger pumping, and extra storage. The council directed the city attorney to pursue a bond election for 250 000 to be retired from water receipts, with possible rate increases.
The Coos County Reorganization committee met in Coquille for its first official session under the 1957 Oregon law. Unanimous ballots elected Cedric Cross as chairman and Robert Powrie as vice chairman, with Powrie a Myrtle Point High School board member among attendees.
Pacific Power and Light will pay 243 937 76 to state and Coos county for 1957 58 property taxes by November 15 per W J B Head local manager. A check will go to Sheriff Chas e Straw. Total Oregon property tax bill rises 83 percent from 1956 57 to 2 574 438 72.

The Coos County Court writes to Oregon State Highway Commission chairman Charles Reynolds urging top priority and prompt scheduling of reconstruction and improvements to Highway 42 from Rink Creek to Highway 99 Junction. The letter, endorsed by Judge James W. Harrison and Commissioners Kruse and True, cites community needs and local support from Housewives For Highway 42.
Officers of Housewives For 42 attended a Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce gathering at the Myrtle Hotel. The Myrtle Point Lions club subscribed 100 dollars to support Highway 42 improvements. Mrs Powrie introduced the group and highlighted transportation issues and plans.
Community groups and local residents in Coquille Valley rally behind Highway 42 improvements from Coos Bay to Roseburg. The effort, led by Housewives For 42, gains support from Coos County Court, the Coos Bay Port Commission, Governor Holmes, and state engineers, with fundraising coordinated by Mrs. Gordon MacKerrow. Local clubs pledge funds and the Myrtle Point Herald and Herald offices assist, urging all residents to participate without formal solicitations.
Coos County Fair Board members attended the Oregon State Fairs Association annual meeting in Gearhart on November 6 8 and 9. Attendees from Coos included Harold Clarno and wife Janet Naslund John Reiher of North Bayside and L Smith of Coquille among others. The group discussed county fair operation and cooperation with the Oregon State Fair, with twenty seven counties represented.
Myrtle Point and Powers oppose the Nez Perce dam on the Snake River. The opposition surfaced at a Portland hearing on a Columbia River drainage plan. E A Wyld Jr, president of the local chamber, urged preserving salmon fisheries and natural spawning grounds by favoring Pleasant Valley and Mountain Sheep projects.
The Interchurch Fellowship hosts a Thanksgiving service at The Church of the Brethren on Wednesday November 27 at 730 pm. The Rev Glen Hutton of the First Christian church will deliver the sermon. Participating churches include Church of the Brethren First Christian Church First Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church.
Kay Cutler, a naval reserve lieutenant colonel, was appointed instructor in the federal guided missile program. After a six week training course he will be transferred to the Red Stone Arsenal plant in Alabama with his wife and two sons to join him.
Visitor Deskin Bergey urged Myrtle Point to pursue the Langlois Cheese factory revival, noting Langlois Cheeses’ national reputation. He suggested contacting Mr Hansen for backing to establish a local dairy industry, leveraging Myrtle Point as the dairy cow capital.
