A Maple Primary School vent debate arose after switching from steam to electric heating. Some vents remain louvers and drafts cooled air, while others were closed. The issue drew local attention but no formal decision was made. Halloween notes include vandalism and dough-ball incidents, with police noting no adults involved.
The Cats face Myrtie Point at Reedsport in a Friday 8 00 p m quarterfinal clash. Arm strong gains 154 yards on 16 carries and Myrtie Point drives to the 32 yard line late in the fourth. Tickets are $1 50 with no reserved seats available.
The Myrtle Point Sportemen's club plans two big turkey shoots this year. The first on Sunday November 28 and the second on Sunday November 19 will start at 10 a.m. Food and ammunition will be available on the grounds. The event aims to let all marksmen win their third turkey and invites the public to attend.
A drivers license examiner will be on duty in Myrtle Point on Wednesday November 15 1961 at City Hall from 9 00 a m to 4 00 p m.
The principal must attend all meetings and records must be kept by committees. Decisions require a two thirds vote and official session approval. If a teacher should not continue next year the District Board must be notified in advance. The board approves an affidavit for birth date verification and age requirements for first grade entry.
Mitch Myers was nominated for president of the Chamber of Commerce at the regular meeting. Dee Richardson declined the post and was replaced by Myers on the nominating list. Deen Mason became nominee for 1st vice president, Mrs. Harris for secretary, and W. B. Billingsley for treasurer. Nominations stay open until December election. 2nd vice president to be proposed next meeting. Greeting Car to visit new city residents. Mrs. Jake Otter hosts. 35 merchants participating and gifts to newcomers.
A special charter bus will take fans to the Friday night football game at Reedsporr. The round trip fare is 81.20 by Greyhound. Call Bob Megan before 8 p.m. Thursday to reserve.
Ed Van Vinck won the Myrtle Point Jaycee Buck Derby with a 163 pound deer the largest of the match. Sharon Callahan claimed the Widest Horned prize with an 18 inch horn span. Jim Lubberfield earned the smallest buck honor with a 70 pounder. Winners receive prizes at a late month banquet.
Myrtle Point City Council weighs acquiring the Roush Building for a city hall while exploring talks with the Methodist Church Building Committee about selling the present city hall. Space for fire equipment and avoiding highway strip development drive the cautious, exploratory discussions.
The Myrtle Point Centennial celebration was announced with Jaycees leading planning and Chamber underwriting costs. A ten day event is proposed with two weekends and a parade style finale. Plans include community costumes and participation by churches schools granges and local groups.
