Funeral services were held in Seattle for Walter J. Crim a 78 year old Myrtle Point accountant who died in Eugene after months of illness. He lived at 1324 Maple in Eugene for 17 years and worked as book keeper for Diamond Lake Resort. Surviving are sons Walter H. Seattle Richard Bellingham Robert Mount Vernon and Harvey Coquille along with twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Stop and Shop Day returns with a $500 jackpot and a $560 pool. Five names will be drawn at participating merchants, and winners must be present to collect. Last time six names were called but only two winners claimed $100 each, with $400 carryover and $100 added.
Broadbent translator station invites all weekly volunteers to a special meeting at 8 o clock Thursday night at the Broadbent Grange hall to address financial difficulties. Officers and the board urge residents who rely on the service to attend and help plan payment for continued operation.
Tom Guerin a local beef rancher and member of a pioneer family was elected president of the Coos County Fair Board after Sam Dement resigned. The board named Duke Davenport as vice president Harold Clarno as secretary and manager Ann Roush as treasurer with several county representatives reappointed. The group plans school district negotiations and considers adding loudspeakers at horse barns while preparing for state association meetings and a Denver convention.
Myrtle Point beat Brookings 33 6 as Ritch A aae kicked the opening score for a 7 0 lead. Paul Daniels returned a 30 yard interception for a TD and Denials added another. Ian Nelson connected with Mike Keffer for a 50 yard score late as Brookings narrowed the gap. Myrtle Point remains atop the state A 3 coaches poll, with Coquille, Bandon, and others in the race for playoff spots.
Myrtle Point Civil Defense Director Clarence Ralph reports progress on the work able defense program. Ben Nichols and Curt Beckham study public buildings for shelters, a fallout monitoring team led by Bob Cowart is formed, and local radioactivity readings show no increase.
The Myrtle Point Herald hosts Dell Day this Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. New subscriptions and renewal renewals are priced at $2.00 for one year, a savings compared with the regular $3.08 yearly rate.
Announcement by Drs Whittaker and Haug of Myrtle Veterinary Hospital outlines construction of a modern mixed small and large animal facility at 222 Roseburg Road. Craig Perrott of Coquille serves as primary contractor with Ray Harris Myrtle Point handling heating, Pyramid Block for blocks, Stanley Scagagg masonry, Floyd Bridgeham electrical, and Wilson-Dunn glass. The design includes an outdoor exercise run for good weather and aims to replace the west Spruce Street hospital upon completion.
In a mixed cap tournament Seur and five others played for a five stroke lead at the turn. Linn held a five stroke edge through the second nine with a late challenge by Meldrum of Myrtle Point and Mrs Tony Metceevich of Coquille.
