A vein of soft coal was opened on the F M Parker claim in Iron Mountain last week. Samples are displayed in the window of King Grocery in Powers. The coal is described as good quality and suitable for blacksmithing, with large quantities found in Iron Mountain. Agnes Kenyon landed two large Chinook salmon on the Sixes River Sunday, weighing 36 pounds and 27 pounds. She used a No. 5 Bear Valley brass spinner and is noted as a leading local woman angler. Over 100 boats fished the Sixes with many anglers unsuccessful. Nearby, lower Coquille fishermen had limited luck, with a few steelheads near the river mouth and an upcoming up river run anticipated. Earlier season silver-sided catches were plentiful, and many Chinook have been running recently.
