Coleman Killed On Railway Crossing

Coleman a Myrtle Point lawyer and former district attorney died after his car was struck by a northbound freight train near Sutherlin Oregon. The 34 year old Missouri born Mason American Legion and Lions member was en route with Bruce Bowles when fog and the crossing danger led to the fatal collision. Funeral plans were set in Portland with Masons and local affiliates attending. Governor Nordland was expected to name his successor.

Chase Receives Honor in Fish Stocking Story Contest

Chase of this city earned honorable mention in a fish stocking story contest from Herricks-Abbotson of Utica New York. Winners to be announced in Outdoor America November issue. He received an Old Gold Hexi super-cane fly rod as a prize.

Oil Pool Menaces City Chickens and Children

W. W. Endicott told the city council Monday evening that crude oil left near the Southern Pacific tracks formed a foot-deep pool. The oil heats to liquid by day and hardens at night trapping chickens and endangering people. The council ordered the city marshal to abate the nuisance.

Rev Hulet and Mrs Hulett left Albany for Rochester New York to attend the National Grange session running from November 12 to 21. Mrs Hulett serves on the constitution and by laws committee and the credentials committee. Rev Hulet serves on the auditing and finance committee and the legislation committee.

Moller McNamara announces university marriage

The Alpha Omicron Pi house at the University of Oregon reports Elsie Moller and James McNamara Jr married on November 1 in Albany. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Chris Moller, graduates in education and works in math at the university. They will reside in Portland after graduation.

City Council Acts on Water Wells and School Safety

Corn Show Delivers Rich Premiums for Farmers at Coquille

Final plans were made at the county agent’s office in Coquille to relocate the corn show exhibit to the south side of the community building. The display will feature extensive prizes for 100 ear corn entries, yellow and white corn, dent corn, sweet corn, potatoes, squash and pumpkins, apples and pears, poultry, eggs, and stock crops, with Poultry Exhibit overseen by BR Leeper and county officials coordinating the overall arrangement for a larger, more attractive display.

Logging Camp Fatality Kills Jack Ireland at Powers

Jack Ireland aged 38 was killed when a log rolled onto him at a Coos Bay Lumber Co camp near Powers yesterday about noon. The coroner's jury exonerated Frank Fish. Ireland's body was sent from Marshfield to Clearfield Pennsylvania for burial after being prepared in Myrtle Point. He had lived in the Myrtle Point area for years and leaves brothers in Myrtle Point and Marshfield.

Coroner’s jury rules death in Bancroft crash an accident

A coroner’s jury at Myrtle Point finds E T Thompson died in an automobile crash Friday near the Roy Garrett ranch two miles south of town. Thompson rode with Frank Fish, who skidded while turning due to a car defect. The verdict states death resulted from an unavoidable accident.

Woman's Club Meeting Planned at City Hall

Funeral for E T Thompson Held Today

The funeral for E T Thompson was held today at the Sothe Epince service, with rites conducted for the late day night accident victim. The service honored Thompson, former rector of Caaifte Norway cemetery, as mourners gathered at the church and burial followed at the cemetery.

Library board reports September and October activity

The library board met at city hall to review monthly totals. September saw 597 adults and 107 children check out books with 62 state books ordered. October had 778 adults and 197 children, with 35 state books ordered, totaling 751 and 1010 books borrowed respectively, plus fifteen new application cars issued in October.

Welter Donald of Broadbent had the high producing herd in the Coquille Valley Cow Testing Association for September. H Gerlach of Arago had the high producing cow No. 42 a grade Jersey with 1354 pounds milk and 652 pounds fat. Gerlach also ranked second with 1254 pounds milk and 657.7 pounds fat. 1102 cows tested. average 5.09 pounds milk and 25.84 pounds fat. 90 cows over 40 pounds fat. 40 herds tested.
