Myrtle Point Pioneer Henry G. Hermann Dies at 72
Henry G. Hermann, 72, longtime Myrtle Point blacksmith and city council member, died last Thursday at Mast hospital. Funeral held Saturday at 1:30 pm at Schroeder Funeral Home with Elder Chas. Wolff officiating. Burial in Broadbent family cemetery. Survivors include wife Sarah, two sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Myrtle Point businesses closed 1 to 2:30 pm for services. Born July 24, 1881 in Broadbent, he operated the Fourth Street shop for 46 years.

Drowning of Dick Haga During Duck Hunt at Lake Tahkenitch
Richard Dick Haga 29 formerly of Myrtle Point and Crown Zellerbach camp drowned while duck hunting at Lake Tahkenitch. His boat was found adrift. he went out alone. As of Monday evening authorities dragged the lake seeking the body. He is survived by a wife and two children. His parents Mr and Mrs Orville Haga and grandfather Maud Haga are noted to have Myrtle Point/Eureka, California ties.

Rifle Club Opens Season with High Scores at Oaks Pavilion
Myrtle Point Rifle club held its first shoot of the season at the Oaks pavilion on Thursday evening. Chet Noyes led with a 377 using telescope sights, followed by Mrs. Ron Endicott and Hank Rowell at 376. Iron sights yielded 319 by Bill Esmay, and standing off hand saw Walt Crabb at 268. The club plans to join the Oregon-California league for interstate matches starting this month.
