Hal Moore opens Weird Harold's Hog Shop in the Brodie Building across from Walt's 66 service station on June 5. The shop will repair and sell cycles and offer do it yourself space with tools manuals and advice for a fee. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
Three Myrtle Point High School English students Ken Harris Dennis Jack and Janice Northup earned state level recognition for essays on Rehabilitation of the Handicapped. Dennis and the others received certificates and bonds at a ceremony in Salem with Governor McCall and state officials.
The 1973 Oregon scholars list includes six MP students named by the State Scholarship Commission. Selected from Oregon high schools for outstanding academic achievement, Myrtle Point High School contributes multiple students to the honor.
Scholars Donna Oden Dennis Jack Nancy Stacy Curtis Jack Steve Crosby and Paul tine Wiley are recognized for high school academic achievement. The Oregon Scholars award honors students who excel in high school regardless of financial need and qualification for state scholarships.
Donna Rae Oden of Myrtle Point High School earned a Georgia-Pacific Foundation four year college scholarship valued at three thousand dollars annually for four years. She plans to attend the University of Oregon to study social science and maintains a 3.8 GPA with awards in French and Algebra and leadership in Student Council. Dennis Dale Jack was named an alternate recipient and will attend Air Force Academy while leading in track and field. he has a 3.88 GPA and holds Myrtle Point records in the mile and two mile runs.
One hundred four students received awards at Myrtle Point High School during an Awards Assembly on May 17. Journalism and language awards were presented by department heads and teachers, with numerous students named for exceptional work and service, including Rita Robison, Bill Mast, Debbie Pillette, and many others.

A delegation of young men from Japan touring Oregon with Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange will be hosted at a coffee hour at the Colony Restaurant by the Myrtle Point Rotary Club near Wednesday, June 6, between 2 30 and 3 pm. Two years age.
