Don Miles of Haley Haley will represent the Coos Curry Truckers Association at the Albany Timber Carnival on July 4. Eliminations at the Coos County Fairgrounds May 20 selected the top five entrants for the Loggers Shodeo on August 19 1973.
Georgia Pacific Foundation announced two local scholarships in Coos County with one in Coos Bay North Bend and one in Coquille Valley. Nationwide 58 students will receive 3000 scholarships this spring. selections emphasize merit need and potential. Yvonne Watermoan and Gary Bell were prior recipients from Myrtle Point and Coos Bay.
Graduation ceremonies for Myrtle Point High School will be held this Sunday at 3 p.m. in the gym. Ninety seven seniors will receive diplomas and the baccalaureate and commencement will be combined with Rev. Walter Graham giving the address. Dennis Jack and Nancy Stacy are co valedictorians. Willamette Valley Ram Sale catalogs are available for the June 16 event at Linn County Fairgrounds Albany. Catalogs should be requested from O E Mikesell, secretary.
Dick Sloon formerly of Portland now owns the Ru-Be Cafe in Myrtle Point after purchasing it from Mr and Mrs James Dunn who ran the restaurant for about a year. Beginning June 1 the cafe will operate 34 hours a week seven days a week.
Bridge PTA hosted a potluck Saturday honoring Powell Lancaster longtime Bridge School principal and teacher as he retires this year.
The Myrtle Point Post Office completed a 17 week safety program built around the Hazard Adder to illustrate how swiftly accidents can strike. Weekly safety talks with posters were conducted by safety supervisor Art Ratcliffe under the director of the post office.
Students at Kish School will have graduation portraits taken by the yearbook photographer for eight dollars a package of four color prints available with a three dollar prepayment. A post office naming contest produced the winning Bee wary clock prize. Don Halgarth of Portland visited to assist safety efforts as Phase I of the Hazard Control Program continues.
District 4 sets Tuesday June 12 for a third public vote on the 1973 74 operating levy reducing furnishings expense by 6000 and outlining a 1 003 452 levy request down from 1 209 420 with potential state aid under consideration that could add up to 100 000.
