The Myrtle Point Lions Club announces the grand opening of the town's first skating rink at the Community Building on Sunday, June 2. Admission is 90 cents for skaters with skates, 35 cents if you bring your own. open three times weekly with separate sessions for children and adults, supervised by Lions committees.

Forty seniors will receive diplomas at the annual commencement in the new high school gym tonight at 8. Col Earl Osborne of the USAF will be the speaker. Valedictorian is Geranna Stevens and salutatorian Patsy Meyer.

Beavers Boys State Delegates Named for Corvallis

Keith Schroeder Glen Kissell and Don Bowwers will attend Beaver Boys State at Oregon State College in Corvallis from June 6 to 15. Keith is sponsored by Myrtle Point Post 38 of the American Legion, Glen by the Myrtle Point Lions Club, and Don by the Myrtle Point Rotary Club and Junior Chamber of Commerce. The program selects outstanding high school students to learn municipal and state government through regular classes.

Noble Adamek of Powers took first place with Howard Post, also of Powers, second in the teen-age road event held in Coquille. Jerome Johnson of Bandon finished third. Three Local Youths To Receive Degrees at Oregon State College

Three Myrtle Point area students will receive degrees at Oregon State College on June 3 during the 88th commencement. Theodore Paul Haberly, Myrtle Point, and Homer Carl Millard, Powers, will earn master of education degrees. Louis Monte Lund of Gaylord will receive a bachelor of science in agriculture. Oregon State will confer about 1255 degrees this year, including 35 doctorates, 178 masters and roughly 1040 bachelors. President A L Strand will deliver the class address at the 10 a.m. ceremony in the Coliseum with a June 2 baccalaureate service at 11 a.m. both to accommodate attendees.

Graydon Crews to Receive Doctor of Education Degree

Graydon T Crews will be listed among Oregon State College graduates to receive an advanced degree at commencement on June 3. He will be awarded the Doctor of Education. He taught in Myrtle Point from 1934 to 1937, then was principal at Coquille Junior High until 1941, served in the navy through 1945, returned to Myrtle Point as teacher and principal 1946 to 1948, then led the Oregon State science student counseling program. He and Mrs. Crews, with two daughters, have lived in Corvallis for nine years. Mrs. Crews is the daughter of Mrs. Minnie Hermann of this city.

Lions Annual Golf Meeting Slated Next Wednesday

The Lions plan their annual golf meeting at Ullle Valley Golf & Country Club with an afternoon tournament for members and guests. Dinner in the clubhouse follows at 8 p.m. Green fees are 50c and include a club set for nonmembers, per Buck Elliott. Prizes will be awarded at dinner. the first tee off is at 4 p.m. with Gene Owens, Jack Orr and Dick Van Dine as the tournament tee.
