Myrtle Point held its first annual Big Four walk-a-thon to raise funds for March of Dimes. Twenty two of twenty seven participants have turned in pledges totaling seven hundred dollars. Gerright placed fourth with one hundred forty three dollars and prizes included fuel and gift items for other participants.

Opera set next week at Little Theatre North Bend
Preparation is under way for the fourth annual Southwestern Oregon Community College Evening of Opera to be held June 5 6 at the Little Theatre in North Bend. Free performances begin at 8 p m. Selections from La Traviata will be sung in English, the story follows Villetta Valery and Alfredo Germain in a tragic romance. Verdi wrote La Traviata in 1853 during work on Il Trovatore.

New agent joins extension staff at Coos County
Arthur P Poole is named to the Coos County staff of the Crocos State University Extension Service succeeding David Keir. The OSU Extension Service will assign him to lead programs in horticulture and cranberries while collaborating with local citizens on home horticulture and farm programs. Poole previously worked as an extension agent in Marshall County West Virginia and earned degrees from Northeastern University and OSU including two masters. He will be based at the OSU Extension Service offices in the Coquille courthouse with four existing agents handling six major subject areas including marine resources family living and 4H.
