Powers girl struck by car near Coquille Oregon
A five year old girl from Powers was hit while crossing Highway 42 east of Coquille. Richard G. Fowler, 30, of Coquille, drove the car. The girl and her companion Randy McWillicah of Myrtle Point were injured. Both are at Bay Area Hospital. knee surgeries are planned for Randy and Miles Hendon.

Vote Set Next Tuesday On Myrtle Point Zoning Ordinance
A special election in Myrtle Point is scheduled for Tuesday June 10 to approve or reject the citys new zoning ordinance. Voters will cast ballots at city hall from 8 am to 8 pm. The referendum followed a petition objecting to residential zones with conditional use permits by the planning commission. The city faces an unresolved legal question about whether any ordinance remains if Ordinance 482 is rejected.

District 41 receives an 85000 Title I grant to expand remedial reading across all schools.
