Powrie Opens Bean Fields in Coquille Valley
Powell titled Powrie Bean Fields planted twenty acres of Blue Lake beans completed last Saturday May 24 on the Bob Powrie field. He set in 1000 tomato plants a 65 day reener and will have three Dole patented corn with experimental plantings of other vegetables. The fields are under irrigation and stringing will begin in June depending on weather. This is the third Bhene Lake harvest in the Coquille Valley.

IED Plans Funding For Regional Speech Therapy Program
The Cape County Intermediate Education District was told by the Oregon Board of Education that two Title VI ESEA funded proposals were approved. Programs include Clinical Speech Therapy and Special Education for the Coos Association for Retarded Children in North Bend and a Regional Speech and Language Program for pre school and first grade children aged 5 to 7 across Coos County. The projects run June 16 to August 8, 1969, with a Special Education teacher, a Speech Clinician, and four clinicians to conduct clinics in Myrtle Point Coquille Bandon and Coos Bay North Bend.

Myrtle Point Man Injured in One Car Crash
Donald Albert Layman aged 24 of Myrtle Point sustained minor injuries in a one car accident Saturday night around 10 near the North Fork bridge. His car failed to make the turn, struck a bank and flipped onto its side, resting in the opposite traffic lane. He was kept under observation at Mast Hospital overnight and released Sunday.
