Speech Therapy Program Serves Walter Banks Pupils in Two Districts
Walter Banks split time between Myrtle Point and Coquille districts to supervise about 70 students with speech problems, plus a waiting list. The program targets mostly second graders and older, with 57 in elementary, eight in junior high, and five in high school. Benefits depend on family cooperation and early referral, while functional and physical defects are treated differently to improve articulation and social adjustment.

Brass Band Wins First in Myrtle Crest Talent Show
The Myrtle Crest gym hosted a Friday talent show on May 16 where the Brass Band, led by David Motz with members George Babb Kenneth Harris Doug Gulseth Doug Robertson and Bill Mist, won first prize performing Dixieland Blues. Motz placed second in a pantomime of The Nightingale. Third went to Randy Day Tom Fiora Albert Lillie Leonard Gulstrom Mark White and Maurice Weekly with a skit titled Ugliest Monster of the World. Proceeds benefited the bleacher fund for the Myrtle Crest athletic field.

The proclamation recognizes the annual Buddy Poppy sale by the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1922. Summer Recreational Program Starts June 16
Dowsald Fisher outlines a summer schedule with girls activities from 9 00 to 1 30 Monday through Friday for ages 12 and up including tennis softball track and field hockey or soccer at various high schools and Rotary Park. Boys activities run 10 30 to 12 00 weekdays for ages 12 and up with tennis basketball track and football at same venues plus a conditioning program and Babe Ruth and Pee Wee baseball clubs at Fairgrounds. Swimming lessons will be offered at Coquille pool with times to be announced.
