Marvin Radloff of Myrtle Punt High won the state pole vault championship with a 12 ft 6 in leap at the Corvallis meet setting a state high school record. He also set a school low hurdles mark with 21.4 seconds but hit three hurdles in the finals for a fifth place finish. Sophomore Dave Mai placed among the state's top mileers with 4 51.8.

Father Richard Littlehales delivered the baccalaureate sermon at St Mark's Episcopal Church honoring the Class of 1959 from M P High School.
