The Fire Chief and City Administrator were directed to inspect a building behind Myrtle Point Tractor Repair for hazards and report next meeting.
News breaks that Sherwood Forest Products Inc has taken over Coos Veneer Plant equipment and operation as of June 1. Officers named include Stan E Sherweed president William C Ulett vice president Max Powers secretary treasurer and directors George A Ulett WL Ham Parry John Mackenbruck George Warren. Previous owners were William McKinley Leona Bryant Dewey Winkelmann Irvin Pearce. About 80 million in assets continued on back page.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club sponsors a card party and other games at the club house this Saturday at 8 pm. All members urged to attend and bring friends. Free cake coffee and ice cream.

Ron Getchell, praised as a rising golfer, defeated veteran Erv Dettman to win the Spring Handicap Championship at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club. The final match ended on the 17th hole after a close, two down finish, amid a strong showing from the younger player and two remaining matches to determine other flight winners.
The testimonial banquet honoring Housewives For 42, sponsored by the Coos County Chamber of Commerce, is postponed from Friday evening to Monday June 15 due to absence of state highway commission members. It will be held in the Coquille community building with social hour at 7 and banquet served by the Coquille Grange.

Oregon senators Dick Neuberger and Wayne Morse clash over policy and partisanship. Neuberger defends his votes as bipartisan and criticizes Morse as obstructionist, citing disputes on foreign policy foreign aid trade balanced budget postage rates interstate highways and defense costs.
Radio reports claim over Memorial Weekend more than 300 died in auto accidents, 100 drowned and about 70 in other incidents, totaling around 470 deaths. About six people per hour died from Friday evening to Sunday midnight, raising questions about modern highways versus horse and buggy travel.

One of the towns most impressive Memorial Day ceremonies was conducted by the American Legion and Auxiliary at 10:00 a.m. Commander pro-tem Bill Downing led the event with Chaplain Miss Kris Bell. Wreaths were laid at the Norway and Myrtle Point cemeteries and at the Jesse Clinton Memorial bridge with participation from Clay Cafley.
