Union High School Graduation Recalls Class of 1981

The 38 graduates of Union High School marched to the auditorium front and stage Friday evening. Rev E V Outlander offered the invocation, Miss Hazel West spoke, and Philip Chambers delivered the commencement address. Several students received pins and silver cups for achievements while others were noted for attendance and punctuality records.

One Killed Two Hurt In Car Wreck

A fatal crash on the Roseburg road Saturday night left Dutch Druliner dead and Harold Borg and Truman Hartley hospitalized. The car, driven by Berg, toppled near a bridge after failing to turn, with several passengers in both the front and rumble seats. Hartley is paralyzed, and Druliner died an hour and a half after arrival at the Mast hospital.

Laird couple to mark 50th wedding anniversary

Mr and Mrs J D Laird of Brewster valley plan a 50th anniversary observance Sunday. Married in Brewster valley they have lived there since. Mrs Laird is postmaster at Sitkum and Mr Laird once drove stage between Roseburg and Coos Bay. They have five children Ivan Carl Kenneth all of Brewster valley Mrs Abernathy North Fork country and Binger H Laird Roseburg with five grandchildren.

School District No 2 to Elect Director in June

The Herald notes the annual school election for School District No 2 will be held at 2 PM on June 22 in the union high school building to elect one five year term director. Wagner’s term ends. Leatherman is mentioned. To have a name on the ballot a petition signed by at least 10 electors must be filed 10 days before the election. otherwise voters must write the candidate’s name in.

Cleanup success hailed by city mayor after weeklong effort

Mayor Chas Harlocker praised the annual city cleanup held over the first three days of the week. Jucka visited every home during the period in the mayor’s proclamation and much rubbish was moved to the city dumping ground.

Four Get Diplomas From Arago School

A class of four was presented to the board of education at the high school auditorium in Arago Oregon Saturday evening. Principal Lon Bennett presented the diplomas with Ernest Watkins, chairman of the board, delivering the final tribute to the graduates Georgia Deardorff Hildreth Hall Harry Collier and Lyle Paull. Georgia Deardorff was named for the scholarship at one of five Oregon institutions of learning. Dean Duback delivered the commencement address in a warm, beneficial talk.

Knights of County Meet Here June 4th

Myrtle Ludge No 3 hosts delegates from county at Marshfield meeting Monday evening led by Edgar McDaniel of North Bend. A banquet followed with F R Kirk as most master. A district lodge meeting at Roseburg June 6th will have Leslie E Crouch and Walter Gleason present. A caravan of Coos county members is expected. On June 4 Myrtle Point Knights initiate Elbert Schroeder with the Magi club from Marshfield assisting. a strawberry feed follows.

Judge Mast and Sons Buy Ford Agency Here

Negotiations underway to transfer ownership of the Ford Motor agency in the Guerin building corner Spruce and Sixth streets. Judge R H Mast of Coquille Dr R H Mast and James Maat of Myrtle Point acquire Niles Wilson company assets and assume control next Monday morning with Portland Ford representatives handling the transfer. The Mast family plans full-time management and James Mast brings union oil ties plus local friends and Dr Mast holds invested interest.

Movies of road rules to aid Oregon drivers

The Oregon traffic department produces a motion picture to promote safe driving on state highways. It will be shown in principal theatres including Portland with emphasis on Schoolboy patrol activities praised for reducing school-area accidents.

Tax League seeks cut in Road Master and court costs

The Coos County Tax Equalization League calls on the county court to curtail the roadmaster's office saving taxpayers about 6555 yearly. It also asks elimination of Marshfield circuit court offices and a 10 percent budget cut across departments. The plan targets publicity 1000 and fairs 1250 expenditures and notes court reductions of over 800 monthly to already supported parties.

Six Boy Scouts Start on Free Trip to Frisco
