About 260 Coos county businessmen met in Coquille Tuesday evening to discuss the Fat Elk Oil and Gas Company prospect well in Fat Elk. Speakers touted potential oil and its impact on the Northwest while subscriptions raised several hundred dollars to continue drilling toward the cavern and beyond.

Pepper Bros plan to build a nine mile road on the west bank of the river near Powers in a national forest reserve. If their placer mining yields return, the Powers Grants Pass highway project will accelerate, with the road becoming a key connecting link. Pepper Bros claim no stock sale to fund operations and will self finance. the project hinges on mining results and is supported by E. F. Keller of the Bank of Powers. Officers elected included president Mrs H I dent and secretary Mrs H C rey, with others serving as vice president and treasurer. A display of beek and projects entertained attendees as the group reviewed its constitution and future plans.
The garden club schedules a Tuesday gathering with Mrs. Taylor presiding at the meeting. Members are invited to share plans for the upcoming season and discuss show arrangements.
