Graduation ceremonies set for Sunday May 37 at 2 p.m. for 97 members of Myrtle Point High School Class of 1973. Rev Walter Graham of Broadbent Community Church will deliver the baccalaureate address, with Dennis Jack and Nancy Stacy among other speakers.
Buddy Poppies will be sold in Myrtle Point on May 18 and 19 by Lee Ray Post 2988 of the VFW. Proceeds fund aid to disabled and needy veterans and widows, support VFW service offices, and assist veterans in disability compensation claims. The event will feature scholarships and diplomas presented by school officials and special music by the Senior Girls Ensemble, as the class motto “It Matters Not How Long We” is noted.
Chase Craig of Myrtle Point has been named Man of the Month by Mutual of Omaha Life Insurance. The award honors life insurance volume and service after graduation from the firm's career seminars. He works with the Charles A. Boiler Agency in Medford. Dora Cemetery Association sets annual meeting and cleanup for Saturday with officer elections on the agenda.
Myrtle Point High School senior Bob Rethemeyer is among 33 students nationwide selected for a summer institute at Colorado College. He will attend June 17 to 38 in Colorado Springs and joins eleven peers focusing on energy and physics under professors Bal Viers and David Hobenbach.
High school students from the college district and Curry County display art at Southwestern Oregon Community College Tioga Hall fourth floor beginning May 18 at 8 pm. A public reception accompanies the opening, with entries open to district high schools and Curry County students. Awards in drawing painting ceramics printmaking design watercolor sculpture and calligraphy announced with two major student grants to be awarded.
The Myrtle Point Putwe Farmers of America announce a farm sale Saturday May 19 from 10 am to 4 pm. Proceeds support the club’s activities. Local readers are invited to attend at the Myrtle Point Location.
A committee of art faculty and SWOCC students will judge entries for acceptance and awards for a campus art exhibition. The grant covers 90 percent of tuition and fees at Swocc. The public may view the show free during normal hours at the leg e.
Myrtle Point High School senior Dennis Jack has earned an appointment to the U S Air Force Academy Colorado Springs and will report July 2 after being nominated by Senator Bob Packwood He served as student body president and was 1973 valedictorian He is the son of Mr and Mrs Eldred Jack of Myrtle Point The city announces the annual Overcut collection through May 25 with refuse pickup along streets.
Myrtle Point mayor Ervin Wilberger urges citizens to buy Buddy Poppies distributed by Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars to aid disabled and needy veterans and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans. Wear a Buddy Poppy to show gratitude to servicemen.
