Myrtle Point High graduates honor service with diplomas

The Myrtle Point graduation honors 44 graduates including Richard McAllister USN and others who served in the armed forces. Ceremony in the high school auditorium features band, invocations by Rev. Wilmer A Briggs, musical selections, and diplomas presented by Paul Breuer. Baccalaureate services were Sunday with speeches by Rev. Philip Ryan and other performers.

Pioneer Sixes Rancher Dies at 73 in Curry County

Thomas F Hughes 73 a lifelong Curry county resident died at Mast hospital after noon Tuesday following a brief illness. Funeral services by Schroeder Bros Coquille will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Catholic mis son Port Orford with Father Kelly officiating. Bur ial will be in Portland. Survivors include brother Francie Sixes and sister Mrs F T McMullen Eugene. Hughes was one of three brothers born on the family ranch at the mouth of the Sixes river. elder brother Edward preceded him in death.

Mr and Mrs Marion Belts of Seattle stop at Kirtle Point on their way to Arizona and the Midwest for a weekend with Mr Nell Ray. Mr Seltz travels as delegate to a national convention of the mail carriers' auxiliary in Minnesota. Mr Ray and Mr Seltz were Nebraska schoolmates 20 years ago.

Officers for the Lions club were nominated and will be installed at the last June meeting. Vacation Bible School Opens Two Weeks at Myrtle Point

The Vacation Bible School will run Monday May 27 through Friday June 7 in Myrtle Point under Miss Rose Paraghian of Pasadena and Miss Wanda Needles of Silverton. Preschoolers attend 9 00 am at the Methodist church and school age children at the Presbyterian church. The program, titled A Voyage on the Good Ship Myrtle Point, involves cooperation from Brethren Christian Methodist and Presbyterian churches with diverse workers assisting the two directors.

Coos County Receives 90040 for Soil Water Conservation

Coos County is allocated 90040 of 92313000 in congressional funds for soil and water conservation work in Oregon this year. The program supports practice payments under the 1946 agricultural conservation program with county committees controlling expenditures to maximize conservation per dollar.
