Myrtlewood Park Forest Opens in Oregon After Landmark Purchase

A $10,000 sale closes the first Myrtlewood park in Coca county Brewster valley. Save the Myrtlewoods Inc. buys 44 acres from Gray with 110 acres held by Oregon and California revested lands admin to form a public park gateway. Key figures include Evan Alborn Coquille Chamber president Ed Hughes Portland. The park plan aims to fund a statewide campaign to preserve virgin Myrtlewood groves in Coos and Curry counties.

Proposal to set aside Kalmiopla Wild Area in Curry County

Regional Forester H J Andrews of Portland announces a plan to designate 78 530 acres along the Chetco river headwaters as Kalmiopla Wild Area under Department of Agriculture rules. The rugged tract shelters the rare Kalmiopla Leachiana and would ban roads, developments, and commercial timber cutting to preserve its natural state. Objections may be filed within ninety days with the local forest supervisor.

Mr and Mrs John Bretzel purchased the 15 acre chicken ranch of WM Neidligh three miles from Myrtle Point along the Arago road. The deal was processed by E C Roberts, local realtor. They also sold their home and four lots in the south water part of town to Mr and Mrs Floyd Arden.

Twenty drum majorettes led 210 county high school musicians down Sherman avenue in North Bend for a large juvenile parade. Bands from Marshfield high, Coquille, and Myrtle Point joined and performed at the community building with Delbert Moore of Oregon State College as guest conductor. Former Myrtle Point Resident Dies in Dakota Belle Fourche

Word of the death reached Myrtle Point of Rose M. Eaton formerly of Catching Creek and Myrtle Point. She died in Belle Fourche South Dakota and is survived by her brother George Hall. She was raised by the Hall family in Myrtle Point.

Emory L Martin Pays 100 Fine For Reckless Driving

Emory L. Martin of Fairview paid a $100 fine in Coquille city court for reckless driving. The charge stemmed from an accident last month in which his car damaged a parked automobile, reported by Recorder F G Leslie.

Veteran receives trucks for log hauling contract

Ronald Burr of Coquille has taken delivery of 12 large Army trucks for his Bone Mountain log hauling contract with Coos Bay Lumber. The logs will be delivered to the Smith-Wood dump in the Coquille River. Burr received the trucks Friday from Port Hueneme California. They are International 6x6s with power to every axle. Two similar trucks were recently acquired at Tacoma Washington.

Former resident Cherlotte Spencer dies at 82 in Oakland

Funeral services were held May 18 at First Christian church in Onli ne Ore for Cherlotte Spencer 82 who died after a short illness. She came to Curry county from Oklahoma with Albert Spencer and their children about 238 years ago. They lived near Myrtle Point ten years then moved to Sutherlin where son Claude died in a logging accident.
