Cougar kills after charging rancher in Myrtle Point hunt
At a Myrtle Point area ranch six miles south, W R Ochletree killed a full grown cougar that had attacked his cow and two dogs after a morning chase. The animal, thin with a injured front paw, lunged at Ochletree and his cattle before the farmer shot it. Neighbors and hunters tracked the feline through the night, aided by dogs Jack and Jill, before the kill near the Middle Fork.

County Grange plans Rosevet Coast Caravan to Eureka
At Coquille Monday night the chamber outlined definite steps for a caravan from Coquille County to Eureka on June 7. The Rossevett Coast Caravan aims to include at least ten cars from Myrtle Point and nearby areas to greet the Grangers passing through on their way to the Marshfield state meeting June 16 11 12 and 18. Spruce Street businesses will display flags and a welcome beacon will mark a point along the route. The Grange gathering is expected to bring hundreds to the county and Myrtle Point merchants see it as beneficial for both communities.
