Myrtle Point Tire Service Inc will operate from a new site at Harris and Mb end by June 1 with partners Farrel Ricker and Warren Cribbins. Grand opening is set for June 26 alongside a chamber of commerce antique car show and Farmer’s Day Friday June 25.
Robert Hatfield, 65, was charged with being drunk in public after a vehicle lost control in the Safeway parking lot on Ash street at about 5 30 p m. The crash damaged three cars and left Mrs Herman and her baby slightly injured while Walter Brennan Safeway manager was knocked about 12 feet. Police report names Hatfield Lillian Haney Bob Bottorff Harriet Hermann and Lyle McCulloch Powers as involved. Chief Floyd said traffic charges will be filed after investigation.
A high school banquet named Mrs Ben Daniels an honorary Explorer with Foster Thompson and Ben Daniels also honored. Ray Daniels was named Explorer of the Year and served as mast president. Nine year old David Motz pantomimed songs while guest speaker Le Roy Konarud of Eugene spoke as state scout executive.
The final date to file for federal flood restoration aid is May 31. Carl Holland Jr. notes eligible restoration work can occur anytime in 1965 if an application is filed by the deadline. funds from the Agricultural Conservation Program cover debris removal grading reseeding and drainage projects. Glen Simmons of the Oregon State Grange will discuss agriculture and rural life in Pakistan following a recent tour.
Police report shows at 8 a m Wednesday the Wilmer Stidham car struck Dee Richardson’s car as Richardson slowed to turn at the scales. The impact damaged Richardson’s rear and Stidham’s front, with both vehicles involved in the mishap.
The Myrtle Point Business and Professional Women's club received a Gold Card award and a Citation of Merit for membership at the BPW state convention in Salem held last weekend. President Mrs. C R Thompson accepted the honors for the local club, with delegates including Mrs. Homer Peterson and Mrs. W P Downing among others.
Mr and Mrs W A Cribbins and Mr and Mrs Myrl e Bryant owners of the Lor Max Market announce they do not plan to rebuild the market building after a May 11 fire in Bridge. Centers of Trim's Auto Supply and a Texaco station burned. no plans announced.
Elder Tom Coffman will deliver the baccalaureate sermon for the 1965 Myrtle Point high school graduating class in the school cafeteria at 8 Sunday evening. Rev. Kenneth Price will give the invocation and benediction, with Rev. Ben Elliott reading the scripture and directing hymns. choir director Mary Kronquist will sing The Lord's Prayer and the service will include processional and recessional led by Mrs. James Chittick.
The Myrtle Point Bobcats beat the Pirates 7-4 at Pacific Thursday as Pat McCurdy hit a three run homer to erase a 1-0 deficit. McCurdy owned six hits in the game, driving in all three runs on the big blast and contributing solid defense as Dan Brewster and Jim MacKerrow added key RBIs. The win lifts Myrtle Point to 4-4 in league play, with coach Scherpf’s squad riding a five win in six game stretch.
Pastor John Wood will depart Myrtle Point on June 15. The new Myrtle Point pastor and his assignment will be announced by Bishop A Raymond Grant at the Oregon Methodist conference in Salem, held June 8 to 11.
Memorial Day services are scheduled for the community with observances planned at local venues and leaders urging participation to honor veterans and fallen heroes. The event emphasizes remembrance and public tribute across regional sites.
Mrs. Marvin Crosby reported to the Better Business Bureau that a door to door salesman took checks ranging from $5 to $50 from rural residents for fire extinguisher systems not delivered. The salesman, tied to the Ex Wisher company of Denver, Colorado, has not replied to letters requesting delivery or return of funds. Checks were cashed promptly and the public is urged to file complaints with the BBB or contact Mrs. Crosby at ST2-5233.
Ken Parry of Myrtle Point wins the spring handicap title at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club. The event marks Parry as the club’s top handicap golfer for the season.
The Retail Trades Committee announces the second annual antique car show and Farm Day on Friday and Saturday, June 26 and 28, downtown Spruce street. Six trophies cost 76 dollars with engraving donated by Bill Knife. awards honor earliest restored model and longest distance entries.
