Voters in Oregon will vote in a state primary with lingering campaigns by Governor Dewey and Stassen for the Republican nominating race. Key contenders include Mc Kay and Hall for governor, with other races in Senate and Congress showing multiple candidates across counties.
Myrtle Point American Legion Post No 38 will hold officer elections at the next regular meeting slated for Tuesday evening May 25. Chester Cole announced all members should be present and other important matters will be discussed. Dr. H H Thomas flew to Denver Wednesday to be with his aged father.
The American Legion auxiliary gathers with Mrs. William Shorb for a routine meeting. Poppy sale is set for Saturday to honor veterans of World War I and II, aiding disabled veterans and their families with no fixed price.
The Inter Church Fellowship committee met at Brethren Church and set a Bible school from May 32 to June 11 with a final program on June 31. Registration will begin soon. all boys and girls are welcome to attend. Churches involved include the Ne Thurch Primarion, Bre, and Juniors.
John Hunt of Superior Cheese Company Myrtle Point is named committee chairman for June Dairy Month in the Myrtle Point area. Marvin Davidson Portland state chairman for June Dairy Month announced the drive part of a nationwide campaign by government civic and agricultural officials to honor the dairy industry. June Dairy Month promotes dairy foods with the slogan Dairy Foods Your Best Buy and urges increased purchases for health and enjoyment.
The Presbyterian church sponsors a daily vacation Bible school from May 31 to June 1. It runs 9 to 11:30 a.m. for children aged 4 to 12, with two teachers from Multnomah Bible School in Portland under Rev. Richard Cochran. Activities include music, handicraft, and Bible study. local teachers are not all chosen yet.

Floyd E K Summers will present diplomas to 45 members of the Junior high school graduating class at exercises in Union high school auditorium next Wednesday evening May 26 at 8 o'clock. Schroeder announced that city workers will, with a truck, be at the cemetery Saturday and possibly Sunday to cart off rubbish. The city has invested in preparing the area to become one of the county’s best looking cemeteries and seeks public help.
A coroner's jury in Roseburg ruled the death of Calvin W. Conn in a vehicle accident near Bridge occurred by accident with no criminal liability. The car owned by O L Anderson left the road and overturned into a ditch, pinning Conn under the wreckage. Passenger Nate Smith sustained only minor injuries and testified. the driver did not testify and the jury deliberated about twenty minutes.
Rosas Pinkley of Myrtle Point led the junior high meet at Coquille with wins in broad jump and shot put and a share in pole vault. Myrtle Point placed third overall as Marshfield won the relay prize and Myrtle Pedzi scored in the dash and high jump events.
Jack Dunn, while driving alone, left the right shoulder after a Sunday accident at the Mast hospital area. He sustained fractured ribs and lacerations to the right leg and is reported to be recovering.

Ernie Watkins, local postmaster, was named president of the Coos county chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States at a meeting in the Tioga hotel, Coos Bay. Wilma Morgan and Hilda Brown elected vice president and secretary, with plans for the state convention in Pendleton June 3, 4, and 5 discussed.
Oregon voters must vote Friday May 21 to choose candidates for the state general election. The governor race narrows to Douglas McKay of Salem versus John Hall of Portland with McKay favored for public morals and administrative experience.
Governor Edwin Ward held a May 19 ceremony and a July 1 1868 marriage at his mother’s Ce ment creek home. The couple had eight daughters and eleven grandchildren with four great grandchildren. Surviving relatives include brother Thomas Jefferson of Basdon and four sisters Ellen King Isa Adams Myrtle Point Anna Pruitt Pearl Broughton.
