Accident Claims Life Of Joe Harry Near Myrtle Point
Joe Harry a former Myrtle Point resident died after a two car collision on Gravelford Road about 7 10 last Thursday night. A southbound 1965 Rambler driven by Harry collided head on with a northbound loaded log truck owned by Art Jones and driven by Walter A McKensie of North Bend. The truck swerved after hitting a dip causing the crash. Harry died en route to Myrtle Point Funeral Home. McKensie was not seriously injured.

SWOCC Scholarships Awarded Locally
Twenty two students from SWOCC and local high schools receive scholarships chosen by the scholarship and loan committee. Two full tuition awards go to top performers from each district with further merit and need based awards to Myrtle Point and other district students including Ann Hathaway. Lt Marvin Radloff, a Myrtle Point graduate, earned Army Aviation training top 10 percent and heads to Vietnam June 16 after May 13 arrival with family.

Bus Replacement Planned After Insurance Payout
A school board decides to accept 96002 in insurance for a wrecked bus and uses 7800 deductible to cover remaining costs. The 18s model bus had 14 years of Devine service and will be replaced with a heavy metro bus to serve as a substitute. The district plans to enroll eligible students in a program for the next school year.
