The Myrtle Point budget committee failed to approve a levy change at a Monday meeting. They voted to refer a proposed 1974 75 tax levy of 980 606 dollars back to voters with no changes, following a 9 7 margin and a May 28 primary.
Susan Barrows daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Barrows of Myrtle Point received the We-Me-Lo Award the Campfire Girls highest rank at a Maple Primary School ceremony last Thursday. She has been active in the program over ten years and has served as a leader this year. She has participated in the dance team rally squad sports and National Honor Society and attended Beaver Girls State last summer.
The County Park dedication ceremony will be held Sunday May 19 at 2 p.m. at the old mill site below town. Speakers include Robie Adamek mayor of Powers Mickey Moffitt Tony Kuba from Roseburg with the Economic Development Administration. After the ribbon cutting Pansy Chapter Women of the Move will serve cake and coffee and facilities open to the public.
The Coos Curry Chapter of the Oregon Log Truckers Association will meet at the Easelce Club in Charleston on Saturday May 18 at 7 p.m. Legal Counsel for OLTA will be guest speaker. The nominating committee report and officer nominations will be on the agenda. Over 60 members and their wives from Coos and Curry counties are expected to attend.
County government will be the focus of a candidates forum set for Monday May 20 at 7 30 p m in the Coos Bay Library Auditorium. The Coos County League of Women Voters sponsors the event with 11 commissioner candidates and 2 sheriff candidates. League members will explain the primary ballot measures and candidates will present platforms and answer questions.
Richfield Red, known as Red Woods, recounts a life shaping early American aviation. The 80s veteran built the first dump trucks and hydraulic systems, aided air meets, and supplied aviation fuel. He recalls World War I service, Boulder Dam work, and his role with Richfield in fueling and publicity.

Bridge Boosters met May 6 to organize four committees for Bridge Pioneer Day on June 27. Booth space for flea market and renaissance fair goes to clubs and individuals in Bridge, with spaces sold on a first come basis after May end. A cleanup day is planned for May 19 and the next meeting is May 30 at 7 p.m. at the Bridge Cafe.
