Myrtle Point High School choir The New Vibrations heads to Portland for a spring tour with a Cherry Park Methodist Church base. They perform at Memorial Coliseum and Esta cada Methodist Church, join Mount Hood Community College Sw ing Choir Festival in Gresham, and wrap with lunch, shopping, ice skating, and a Portland Kiwanis Club event before returning home.

Local pair chosen for Music in May at Pacific University

Myrtle Point High School juniors Pan Henshaw and Lela Placp are among about 575 students from Oregon Washington and Idaho invited to the 27th annual Music In May May 15 16 17. About 210 form the band 130 the orchestra and 235 the chorus for a 8 p.m. May 17 festival concert in Pacific Gymnasium. Admission is charged. Distinguished guest conductors include Frank Bencriscutto Albert Freedman and Charles Hirl. Pacific School of Music sponsors the event with Prof Kenneth Conbs as director. The SWOCC Board of Education meets May 19 at 8 p.m. in Colldor SWOCC campus.

Voters approved a city tax levy of 97.76 with 86 yes to 59 no, exceeding the six percent limit by 121,694. The total levy tops 246,780 up to 1,209,470 for next year. The levy reflects higher city property assessments and a slight rate decrease from last year.
