Mrs Dal King M King of Myrtle Point was re elected president of the Coos County Health Association at the annual meeting in Coquille. New officers include Mrs Paul McElwath vice president Mrs Mable Barklow secretary George Gratke treasurer Ned C Kelley financial secretary and Mrs Alten Kardell seal sale chair. The group netted 9 30 with Charleston chair Caroline Hutcheck leading county seal sales.
Myrtle Point senior Porter Dim qualified for the state meet in the javelin at Corvallis after earning the Coos County track record with a 161 feet 11 inches toss at the May 2 meet in Coos County. Shipments from Marshfield and North Bend also advanced in javelin, shot put, and mile events as 22 county athletes and four coaches traveled to Medford for the district meet.
A local event called First Aid Tag Day will occur Monday in Point to raise funds for essential first aid materials. Mrs Budele Johnson supervises supplies held at a small hospital and local volunteers will collect and distribute materials for emergencies.
Ration stamps issued last week at Myrtle Point and county schools must be used during designated periods. First stamp must be used before May 16 for one pound. later stamps run May 5–16, May 17–30, May 31–June 18, and June 14–27. Coquille Valley Rationing Board urges those registered or awaiting books to contact local members.
A graduation exercise is planned at Myrtle Point Union High School next Tuesday May 18 at 8:00 PM. The ceremony will feature the student body and music program as part of the annual events.
Kari Dement, manager of the Chy Market at Myrtle Point for Lester Dement, has enlisted in the U S Navy as a 2nd class cook and expects to work as a meat cutter. Frits Hull takes Dement’s market position after several months at Thrift Grocery. Mr and Mrs C A Bennett purchased a house and six lots on Myrtleland.
A free moving picture show titled Sauce for the Gander will be shown at the Hiland Theatre on May 16 at 2:00 PM. The event is open to all residents of the section and nearby communities as part of the annual festival activities.
