Death of local farmer Frank Harnish at Gravelford Coquille

Frank Harnish a Gravelford farmer aged 15 hrs. born in Wisconsin February 23 1883 married Julia Voegle July 14 1901 at Coquille died after a 13 month illness at a Coquille hospital on May 4 1898 Funeral services were held at the Gano Funeral Home Coquille with Rev F H Barr Myrtle Point officiating Interment was at the Gravelford family plot Members of the TOOP lodge served as pallbearers and the surviving family includes wife Mrs Julia Harnish two daughters Hedwig Harnish and Margaret M Henry plus a nephew Al Besoskey and several nephews in the east.

Myrtle Point High selects speaker and honorees for 39 graduation

Superintendent Frank B Bennett of Albany named as main speaker for Myrtle Point High commencement on Friday May 19 at 8 pm in the high school auditorium. Ruth Wallace is valedictorian and Dve Beatty is salutatorian, with outstanding senior girl and boy and top athlete to be announced. Baccalaureate services set for Sunday May 14 at 8 pm at the Methodist Church with Rev Hugh Mitchelmore officiating.

Girls League Tea Held at Myrtle Point High School

The Mothers Tea for Myrtle Point High School girls league was held in the gym Thursday afternoon marking the close of the year’s activities. President Alles Fabre opened with a welcome, Bernice Burgess received a gift, and advisor Mrs. Chester Otis was honored. The program featured singings, a dance, skit Grandmother's Memoirs, and other numbers by Dorothy Bender, Kathryn Summerlin, and more, followed by installation of next year’s officers. Guests enjoyed grape punch and cake.

Mothers Day Rally Held Sunday at Fairview

A Mothers Day Rally will be held Sunday at the Fairview community hall sponsored by Myrtle Point’s Town send club. Clubs from Coquille, Marshfield, Powers, and North Bend will take part, each presenting a number on the program beginning at 1 o’clock. John Prentice of Marshfield will be the main speaker.

Trackmen Honored At C of C Banquet

A Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce banquet honored Myrtle Point High School trackmen and two State Farmer degree boys from Lad candidate for the American Farmer degree. Coach Patt Rickard introduced the honorees and recalled the county track meet held Friday. RW Schaas discussed Keystone chapter award requirements. Walace Dement announced a large turnout expected for the upcoming stockmen convention in May.

Bridge School Track Meet Set For Saturday May 13

The Coos County B elementary school track meet will be held this Saturday May 13 at the Bridge school starting at 9 30 a m. Ribbons will go to the top three in each event and a pennant to the winning school. Boys events include sprints high jump broad jump pole vault and shot put. Coos Health Assn to Meet Friday in MP Church

The Coos County Health association holds its spring meeting Friday May 12 in the Myrtle Point Presbyterian church dining hall at 6 30 with a dinner by the Myrtle Point Woman's club.
