Myrtle Point FFA Chapter Earns Keystone Honor

Myrtle Point FFA delegates at Corvallis last week earned the Keystone chapter honor for meeting state activity requirements. Eugene and Phillip Barrett were elected to the State Farmer degree, one of 24 awarded to 49 chapters, while Robert Lundy was named a state candidate for the American Farmer degree. The gathering also installed new officers and honored 24 State Farmers and five honorary degrees at the Friday banquet.

A Tuesday afternoon galloping tea hosted by Mrs. Michael Myers featured guests from the local community. Methodist Ladies Aid met with Mrs. Carter hosting. Junior Woman's Club held a Norway Grove picnic with about 30 attendees. a Thursday birthday dinner honored Mr. Jesse Clifton. the Women’s Club will host husbands at the Coquille Valley Country Club with a 7 PM dinner and a program to follow.

Brewster Valley Man Injured by Horse Kick

C M Wilson of Sitkum was kicked on the back of the knee while handling horses near Wednesal last weekend. The injury bruised muscles and ligaments, forcing him to use crutches. he also suffers rheumatism in his right hand.

Portland’s H G Gant visited relatives from Saturday to Wednesday while Frank Harnish of Gravelford showed slow improvement. Numerous neighbors and friends gathered for Sunday calls and picnics at Daphne Grove above Powers. Trips included Tillamook, North Bend, Prineville, and California as residents shared visits and routines.

Electrification Association Formed at Myrtle Point Meeting

A rural electrification meeting in Myrtle Point drew about 200 people who voted to form and incorporate the association. Ivan C Laird was elected chairman and Miss Julia Leatherman secretary as the group plans roughly 80 miles of lines to serve Bridge Gravelford Brewster Valley Dora McKinley Lee and Fairview with a 40 million dollar federal allotment.

Install Officers At County Meeting Held Sunday

County meeting Sunday afternoon saw VFW officers installed in Myrtle Point Bandon and Marshfield. District Commander Eugene Horton of Marshfield presided with officers named for each post and retiring commanders listed from Myrtle Point Bandon and Marshfield.

County records list arrests including Howard Torrence 27 on burglary charges with bail set by Wm Henry Merchant. William Olsen 42 jailed for drunken public highway offense. County Track Meet Set For Friday At Local Grounds

The Coos County annual track and field meet will be held Friday May 5 at 1:30 pm on the local school grounds. Athletes from Myrtle Point Coquille Riverton Bandon Coos River Marshfield and North Bend will compete. The starter announced is Hod Turner of Roseburg. The event was moved from Saturday May 6 to Friday to avoid a county band concert in Coquille.

Choir Election Held Wednesday at Presbyterian Church

The Presbyterian church choir held a business meeting after rehearsal last Wednesday. Extension Unit Meets Thursday In Coquille

The Summer Home Economics Extension Unit will meet Thursday May 11 at 10:30 AM in the community hall for a demonstration on hair care and care of heirloom fabrics. MP Couple Injured in Tuesday Evening Wreck

Rev and Mrs A A Baker were in a collision on the Coquille highway near Myrtle Point Tuesday around 10 45 PM. The Baker car passed a truck parked on the road and struck the rear fender of a northbound vehicle, sending it skidding before stopping. The Bakers were taken to Mast Hospital with Baker’s face cuts from the windshield and Mrs Baker suffering severe shock and bruises.

The Myrtle Point High School bands and Glee clubs gave a well received Friday concert in the school auditorium. Directors T Puraverly presented a varied program including Band numbers such as Military Escort Overture and Western Spirit, Girls Glee with Around the Gypsy Fire, and ensembles like Blue and Gold and National Guard serenade.
