A public cooking school demonstration will be held at the Hand theater next Wednesday May 13 at 2 pm. Margaret Fenner of the States Power company will present with Edna Kubison assisting. Admission will be charged.

A logging operator died Friday after a brief illness. He had recent heart and lung complications, with a pneumonia development early this week. He was hospitalized multiple times and became unconscious on Wednesday.

Miss Ved At Corvallis wedding described as a Myrtle Point girl classmate of Oregon State and Alpha Omicron Pi member at Eugene. The bride attended Myrtle Point High, studied seven years at the University of Oregon, and now resides with her groom near Corvallis after a simple ceremony.
The Alsea Bay bridge opening celebration spans Friday to Sunday with a coastal festival. Events include motor races a marathon swim a track and field meet and a street carnival as the three day dedication marks a milestone in Oregon coastal highway development.
A meeting of community committeemen elected last week to oversee the Agricultural Conservation Act was held at the Coquille courthouse. The Non High district will elect one director at the annual school meeting on the third Monday in June to succeed J N Gearhart who has served as director from this zone for three years and as board chairman. Under current law the director is elected by voters of this zone rather than at large. Petitions for filing for candidates are available through the county superintendent’s office.

The Fam Upstairs is a three act comedy to be presented by the senior class at Myprile Point High School on Tuesday evening. The plot centers on Louise Heller and family misunderstandings as a large salary is revealed and domestic chaos ensues. The cast features Joe Heller Merle Randleman Emma Heller Helen Reed Louise Heller Ione Parry Willie Heller Roderic Barkson Annabelle Heller Lila Davenport Charles Grant Earl Hoover Mrs Grant Charles Uttle Kenneth Cooper and others. First 160 seats reserved at Semperta drug store.
The council met in regular session with Mayor Ralph Kng presiding. A $23 from the cemetery fund was approved for cleaning the cemetery on designated cleanup days May 20 22 and 23. Guy Button paid $10 for a bee license and a retail and package license. E Bond objected to a bowling alley license for a building adjoining his rooming house. C H Crew requested pinball machines and an ordinance licensing them was ordered drawn.
The Coos County Fire Patrol association reports a formal policy by the state forest service requiring operators to obtain forestry permits by May 15. Operators must provide equipment and comply with the forest code, with inspections of gear at intervals during the fire season.
Danel Cribbins and his wife closed a deal with the Bank of Myrtle Point to purchase the Schneider house on Seventh Street near Cedar Street. The Cribbins plan to reside there later.
Myrtle Grange met Tuesday evening with master Frank Southmayd presiding. Mountain States Power presented a comedy and slides on electricity for the farm, enjoyed by a large attendance. Grange men will lead the next program.
Beginning July 1 a new mail route will provide regular daily service six days a week to outlying communities west of the river. The carrier will travel from Coquille to Creek junction then Jehirg Creek road to Pete Norton ranch and Broad Bent, returning via Roseburg highway to Myrtle Point and Coquille. The contractor will sell stamp supplies handle registered mail money orders money for registry insurance and C O D parcels.
Members of the Junior Woman's club schedule a hike and picnic for May 14. They will depart in the morning with a picnic lunch and spend the day at the Schroeder cabin in the Bald Hill district. Mrs Elton Schroeder leads the outing.
Charles Wagner and brother Lee Wagner run a mining operation in Johnson Creek district. Their cabin burned recently destroying tools and gold valued at 190 dollars. Neighbors rebuilt a new cabin within two days and Wagner retrieved gold from ashes.
Royal Neighbors gathered at Marshfield for a statewide convention with registration and appointments. A question box opening followed a formal session, then a banquet and formal presentations by state and county leaders. Irma B. Kibler and Mrs. R. H. Lemen led initiatory work and district duties.
