City Council Approves Sewer Department Equipment Purchase

The council authorized buying new equipment for the sewer department to aid clearing blocked sewers. A fire department member will attend the Baker meeting June 4 5 and 6, described as a school for firemen. Other routine items were discussed at the Monday night session.

April in Powers set a record as the raini est month since 1931 with 8.05 inches. Through May 1, rainfall totals compare with last year and the Cedar Experimental Station tallies show Powers drier than the station, aiding forest fire prevention planning.

Man Injured In Fall From Power Pole On Reedsford Road

Gilbert of Coquille employed by Mountain States Power Co. was injured Wednesday morning around 10 o clock while working on a power pole on Reedsford road. He touched a 2300 volt line at about 30 feet height, was knocked unconscious and fell. He regained consciousness before a doctor arrived and was taken to Mast hospital where plasma was given to counter heavy blood loss. Gilbert has worked as a lineman for 25 years.

Six new members received degrees at Broadbent Grange while North Bayside Grange was guest speaker on Grange in surenes. A light lunch was served by Mr and Mrs Clinton Carman and Mr and Mrs Thomes Luttrell. The program featured a fashion show themed that New Look with dresses for light and dark days and a dress form modeled as a store mannequin.

Norwood and Naydene Browne opened the Myrtle Hotel Coffee Shop on Spruce Street last Saturday morning. Friends decorated the interior with bouquets and staff worked late to meet the opening deadline. The banquet room is under construction and will nearly double capacity. hours may expand to Sundays once more staff is hired.
