Arnold Melby the music director will lead junior high band and soloists to Eugene for the state musical festival to be held Friday and Saturday April 30 and May. Soloists travel Friday morning in private cars. junior high band departs 5:00 AM Saturday from the junior high school and returns later the same day. Transportation is provided by local citizens after Greyhound decor issues.
Graydon, the Myrtle Point Union High principal, announced that Professor Joannson from Linfield College will deliver the commencement address on May 21 at the high school. Joannson, a former mayor, traveled to many countries to compile history for his account of the Transport Command, reflecting the class motto Not The Forward Is To Go Backward.
Rev W A Briggs and Rev Marion Sterns led a church gathering in the Church of Christ parlors to map a summer Bible school with dates to be announced. Mrs Evans lists first through third grades at the Church of Christ with aides Mildred Miller Nancy Waybright Huff Sterns and Stateler and planning set for Friday at the Evans home. Additional teachers will meet with Rev Briggs at the Methodist church that evening.
Members of the Gideon Society will be at the high school this afternoon to present copies of the Testament to all students. Principal Graydon Crews has announced the event.
Walter Crim Norwood Browne and Earl Roush were named to a campaign committee to retain Earl T Newbry as Secretary of State. The committee, announced here, includes رئيس Thornton Cow Bay county chairman and LW Hallen of Powers. Nineteen others were selected by Mr Thornton for the county.
Myrtle Point officials announce Governor Thomas E. Dewey will address locals Friday May 7 as part of a regional visit to Coos County. The event follows a Saddle Club meeting planning land purchase for corrals and a future club house, with other town speakers and appearances in Coos Bay expected.
Mrs Melinda Bonin of Burbank California visits her niece Mrs John Felsher in Burbank. The reunion marks 51 years since they last saw each other, with Mrs Felsher hosting the aunt as her guest.
Six couples who marked their 50th wedding anniversaries were honored at Myrtle Point Pioneer Day. The oldest couples included E. W. Jones at 60 and Cal Gant at 58, with Reed 57, Guerin 52, Clinton 51, and Joe Mast celebrating 50 last fall. Aunt Ellen Robinson of Coquille, 101, was the eldest attendee alongside 93 year old Mr. A. Train.
Mr and Mrs Asa L Whitaker of Spokane are visiting their sons Howard and Relph Whitaker and families. They expect to remain about two weeks.
Coos county officials, including Nels S. Rogers and state foresters, will meet with livestock producers at Coquille city hall on Tuesday May 4 at 10:00 a m to discuss adjusting fire patrol taxes on developed grazing land and possible land exchange through the Bureau of Land Management. Leatherman notes the aim is a fair tax and to facilitate exchanges for grazing lands.
A cleanup drive is planned in the city with six residents asked to pay scouts a small sum for yard and lot cleaning. All money collected by the scouts will go into a troop fund. Further details will be announced next week.
A regional Polio Planning Conference will be held in Eugene on May 4 with Coos county officials Dr Eleanor Gutman and Elton Schroeder among attendees. Similar conferences across Oregon run May 3 in Klamath Falls, May 7 in Pendleton for nine counties, and May 10 in Portland for 15 counties, chaired by Dr G D C Thompson and Felix Montes to present recommendations from the advisory committee.
Catching Creek Community club held a Saturday dance at Catching Creek schoolhouse with Frank Rema and his orchestra providing music. A large crowd attended and members served supper at midnight with proceeds earmarked for a bulkt- funds.
