A list of town guests includes Mr. and Mrs. Willar Byrees Mrs. E M Griffin Mr Barker Mr and Mrs Marry Spencer and others attending a church gathering. Names such as Dorothy Mage Julius Ruble Gladys Rice Irene Burr and more are noted among attendees.
Florence Carter, the first of Sumerlin Powers Junction's large family in Coes County, pursued teaching after training at Graveyard Academy. She earned county teacher certification in 18 and taught from 1902 to 1906, with summer sessions in Coal edo Sumacer McKinley and KeWik Gaylord and a spring term at Bum ner Etalka Gaylord. Her students at Roland School included Les Me Meal Mary Wise and Laura Carver, among others, and she noted a fourfold wage period of 990 for eight grades.
Florence Sumerlin Plortaet born November 1906 married Tom Sumerlin and had three daughters Verla Lucille and Katherine. She was a teacher dean librarian and active community member joining the Presbyterian Church in 1911 and the Myrtle Point Business and Professions Women’s Club. She traveled with friend Mette Rosaslow on trips to the East Coast Mexico and Alaska.
A public hearing is scheduled for May 6 at 8 p.m. in City Hall to consider a proposed 1974-75 city budget that exceeds the six percent limit by 136 201 dollars. A public vote on the excess limit is set for May 7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at city hall. The proposed levy is 250 608 dollars, up from 141 350, with detailed fund allocations for General and Utility funds and various line items.
County budget hearings start today at 10 am in the commissioners chambers with the assessor's department opening the sessions. The proposed total budget is 9 572 447 dollars, up from 8 250 969 dollars, within the six percent levy limit. Road fund rises to 3 148 032 dollars from 2 825 303 last year. All departments show increases amid higher costs and material shortages. Sessions continue Friday and next week with schedules subject to revision. public attendance urged.

MPHS sends a band and chorus contingent to Pacific University for the 20th annual Music in May Festival Concert on May 18 at 8 pm. About 580 finalists from over 2,000 applications will rehearse on campus for three days under distinguished conductors from the University of Illinois Chicago Iowa and Pacific University.
Mayor Ervin R. Wilberger asks Myrtle Point residents to buy Buddy Poppies from Veterans of Foreign Wars to aid disabled and needy veterans widows and orphans of deceased veterans. The campaign funds support the living veterans and honor the dead with the symbol of gratitude.
Notices for Myrtle Point include city council meetings on the first and third Mondays at 7:80 p.m. in the city hall council chambers, Port of Coquille River Cone mission nestings third Tuesday at 5 p.m., Port Bank of Myrtle Point district 4 School Bond meetings on the second and fourth Mondays at 7 p.m. in the administration building, planning commission meetings on the second Monday at 1:30 p.m. in city hall, and library board meetings on the Tuesday before last Friday at 4 p.m. at Flora M. Laird Memorial Library.
First grade registration for Myrtle Point Schools District 41 including Bridge Dora and Maple Primary is set for Friday May 10. Children must be six by November 15 1974 to start in September 1974. birth certificate or proof of date of birth required. A physical exam is recommended and forms are available at schools and central office. Maple Primary hosts a 1:30 p.m. Spring Roundup program for entering students and mothers.
The Myrtle Polo High School Forestry class hosts the third annual Forest Products skills contest on Saturday May 4 with about 300 students from multiple schools competing in 10 events. Competition starts at 10 a.m. at Baye An, with trophies for top team, sportsmanship, and all-around honors.
Principal Paul Franzen releases Myrtle Crest honor roll figures detailing Eighth Grade and Seventh Grade students with straight A averages and high B averages. The lists include named students with GPAs from 4.0 to 3.0 across both grades and several honorable mentions.
Day care enrollments are available at Myrtle Point Day Care Center 720 Stover Lane. A revised plan offers a scholarship fund to reduce daily costs. interviews on tuition costs are available. Acting Director Sandy Underwood can be reached at 572-5311 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The center operates 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mayor Brevin Wilberger set Myrtle Point spring clean-up for May 13-14 with local music crews collecting train litter in city containers.
